Surgeons in Mexico?
I went to Dr. Guillermo Alvarez. His website is www.endobariatric.com. You can also see a lot of him on his YouTube site http://www.youtube.com/user/Endobariatric.
He's a great surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone. He is VERY experienced with VSG and other bariatric surgeries. I didn't have any complications. They keep you in the hospital for two nights after the surgery (included in the price.) The hospital is older and not fancy at all, but very clean. Call the number on his website and talk to Susan, his coordinator. She lives in the U.S. and has had VSG. She is awesome and will talk to you and answer all of your questions.
And to answer your last question, my surgery was $8,999. It included everything except my plane ticket to San Antonio. His driver picks you up and takes you back.
If you have any more questions, feel free to send me direct messages.

I just had a VSG in Juarez on 6/30/2011 at Star Medica Hospital. My Dr. was Dr. Jose Rodriguez and the experience was amazing. All of the people involved were great and very professional. The care we recieved was top notch I could not be happier. If you are interested in this go to beliteweight.com that is the agency I used to book my surgery and they handled everything. The cost for my VSG was 6800.00 total. I would highly recomend thaem. Hope this helps.
I went to Aceves, $8750, and was VERY pleased with the experience. Be sure to do your research, some of the doctors in MX have higher complication rates than others. I believe Almanza is one to avoid, from what I've read on here. On the DS board there was a post yesterday from a woman who had a terrible experience in his clinic (not hospital) - she said there were ants in the OR for crissakes! - but I see where it's been taken down by OH staff. I was going to post a link. It's on the MX board, tho.
Does the surgeon operate out of an actual hospital or a clinic? In a hospital there will be emergency services and equipment, if you need it. In a clinic they would need to run you over to a hospital if anything happened during surgery. If you had your surgery in the hospital, you recover there also, whereas if you went to a clinic, they send you to a recovery place (usually a hotel), where you'll have limited services from medical staff. Ask questions about all this!
Aceves keeps his patients for three nights after a VSG, which I liked, in the event anything happened, like a leak. Nothing did, it went as smoothly as it possibly could have, and it turned out I was bored after a couple days, but I was glad for the conservative approach. The hospital he operates out of, Almater, is very clean, modern, and well-staffed. Aceves and Dr. Campos (his G-E) visited at least twice a day, sometimes three, to check on us. I could not have asked for a better experience.
Edited to correct: Not Ramos Kelly, but Almanza at Jerusalem Hosp.
