Thank you Mary.. How long were you on your medication for?  My doctor has me on mine for one week..

And from what I understand I will be able to be around people after 7 days?!  I am just happy that my husband had the chicken pox.

Thanks,

Susan

I was on meds for 10 days - sorry I can't remember the names - but they did work great.

Shingles are horrible, but it sounds like medical technology has come a long way since I had them 17 years ago!  I was 11 and was miserable.  I still have a scar on my right shoulder.  Back then I had no options with my primary doctor, so I sought treatment from a hollistic doctor that gave me some awful smelling goop that helped me heal faster.

Hope your healing goes fast!

OMG I am so sorry that you had them at such an early age..

I know my doctor said that I could put on some cream but I will just take the medication (oral) she gave me..

I guess I will have to see if I have a scar after mine are all gone.

Shingles can recur just like Herpes Simplex. They are a result of the related Herpes Zoster (Chicken Pox). You cannot get Shingles unless you have had Chicken Pox. Once you have them, the virus lives in your body, waiting to re-activate. It hurts so much because it travels along the nerves. Hope you get better, soon!

Thank you so much Jeni for explaining to me about the shingles..

I had read on WedMD earlier and if I remember correctly they said that once you get them they don't come back. Now, I as outside when I read that.

Oh how DREADFUL!  Chicken Pox, part 2!!!

I'd rather have plain ol' chicken pox again as to deal with shingles.  I had them 2 years ago, started above my eyebrow, and went into the eye itself - while we are on a cruise.  Shingles can do really weird things to the eyeball but I won't go into detail.

Elavil is sometimes prescribed to help with the nerve pain, especially if it lingers.

You have my sympathy!  Ugh!!!
