BUMMER!!

I work for the school system, so I have been out of work all summer long, and have not seen anyone that I work with since I had surgery.  I will be two months out on Wednesday, and have lost 39 lbs.  Not too shabby!  But I have been complaining to my husband about not SEEING any results yet.

Today was our first meeting about back-to-school, with school starting on Monday, the 15th.  Not ONE person said anything about me looking thinner!  I am so bummed out!  I know it has to be coming soon, ( the looser clothes, etc. ), but i really wanted to be a shocker by the time school started!

Trust me, I am not complaining about 39 lbs!  I am ecstatic!  But I am ready for it to SHOW ALREADY!

Anybody about my starting weight?  How long before people took notice of your weight loss??

I am 5' 7" tall and 35-years-old   **Sheri**

Oh honey, I bet they all noticed and didn't know what to say or weren't sure how to approach it.  39 pounds is great and based on your current weight, I guarantee it's noticeable!  Soon, my dear, soon!

I agree 100%. It seems sometimes that others are more uncomfortable about our weight than we are!

You know how it is... they're thinking ...something's different, new hairstyle, different clothes, glasses or no glasses.  But at this point no one dares to say anything about someone else's weight because they might be wrong.

You're doing this for you anyway like you said, that and so you can be around to play with your children on the floor and chase them down when their 15!

You see the new you, LOVE IT and continue to LOSE IT!

Like the other poster mentioned im sure some people noticed but didnt want to be rude and mention it or there is always a few who are jealous who wont say anything.

I do have to say it took a while for it to be as noticeable..I would say more in the 50 pound range..at least this was my experience..

You are doing great, just keep taking pictures of yourself as you progress and you will be able to see the difference in no time.

I know how you feel! I was down 75 lbs before anyone said anything to me. I asked some close friends why noone was saying anything and I got all of the following answers:

1) You haven't bought any new clothes yet and no one can tell what's going on underneath all that fabric! I went from a size 6X top to a 3X top and a 34 pants to a 24 pants before I actually bought anything new so when I started wearing closer fitting clothing and clothing that actually fit - that's when people started noticing. Wearing clothing that's too big actually makes you look bigger.

2) People are afraid to say something if they didn't know you had surgery or were dieting because maybe you lost all that weight because you were sick. (That's a weird one but I heard it from several people)

3) People don't pay as much attention to you as you think they do :) We think everyone is noticing every pound and the truth is that it took more than 40 pounds for me (I started at 323) to have people notice.

In fact - I think *I* didn't notice my first 40 pounds lost - it takes time to wrap your brain around it. Even now at 118 lbs lost I still look in the mirror and sometimes see my "old" self.

Keep up the great work - do it for YOU :)

I started 30 lbs lighter than you, but am also 4" shorter, so our bodies might have been similar.  I was in 20W's, and was also off from work for 2 months before going back.  (due to issues other than surgery.)  I went back wearing the same wardrobe I'd had before, and everyone knew of my surgery.  I got some congratulations, but not the Wow's that I'd hoped for either.  However, as time has gone by, and I'm wearing more size 16's, I'm getting more compliments.

Last week I attended a professional meeting, a dinner, with some women I see only 2-3 times each year.  One woman said "you look different" and I told her that I'd lost 50lbs.  Her look was all I had hoped for.  She asked what I'd done and when I told her that I'd had a VSG, she and another woman wanted to know all about my experience.

I'd suggest that you find a good consignment shop and buy a new outfit that's still a bit tight.  Don't wear it till it fits well, it won't take long.  Your work will be obvious in time, and I'll bet it's coming quite soon for you.  39lbs is alot of weight, no matter how you spread it around.  You've lost the equivalent of a 4 year old child, and others will see it when they get their own classrooms in order.  Just be prepared as to how you want to handle the observations which will soon be coming your way.

Congratulations, and keep doing what you are doing!

I was more than halfway to goal before anyone said anything to me.  I was like, 'Wow.  How freakin' fat was I that I had to lose 50 pounds before anyone could tell a difference?'  In reality, it was more that I was still wearing my old clothes for the most part and since it was also winter, I was able to hide behind some pretty big sweaters.  LOL  Anywho, hang in there.  If they haven't noticed yet, they will soon.  You are doing great and making fantastic progress!
