Major Observations here on VSG Main......

Just some "General" observations after being on this forum for a couple of years............

If you don't agree..... re-read the first line...it says "General" that means not everybody or everything!

And if you don't agree.... fine....Flame me if you wish...... I don't much care.....

What I do care about is that everybody that goes to the extreme of any WLS surgery get the most out of it...........

Yah see..... If you don't do a disclaimer...... panties tend to get wedged........

- A lot of people on a 1200cal plan complain about slow weight loss or no weight loss at 4-6 months out.
- Most people on the classic 600-800cal, less than 40carb plan do well.
- VSG patients with larger bougie sizes tend eat more.
- Most people have some kind of stall at 3 weeks.
- Most people that attend support groups and take advantage of aftercare do better.
- A lot of posting by people at first...... than they tend to fizzle out and disappear by the 4-6 month.
- A lot of people have WLS really that weren't really ready for it or didn't give it an honest try.
- A lot of New VSG surgeons out there.
- Some really varied eating plans now. Lots of surgeons/nuts giving out nutritional guidelines based on textbook data for normies.
- Some surgeons just plain don't have a plan....Get a surgery... lose weight.
- Some patients don't get or request instructions.
- Lots of "Bad" information/suggestions going on here in the last year.
- People who have made the lifestyle changes to better themselves do better long term.

Again these are some general observations of mine.

Everybodys journey is there own.... but there are some obvious trends that are very visible after you been here a while.......

I used to believe and preach "Follow your Surgeons Plan" I won't say that anymore....to many Janky surgeries and eating plans.

This is not intended to to bash anyone.... hopefully it will create awareness.

Ive been reading things on here for a lot of months now and I have noticed some similarities also which is very good for me since it shows me what is working and what isnt when it comes to a general consensus. I have learned a lot of stuff reading about what people are doing and it has been very helpful.

I agree 100%. . . This isn't rocket science! ! !

I've avoided a lot of new topics lately only because I can't respond in a tactful manner.

Tactfulness is overrated.  Most of us need brutal honesty, not tactfulness, to succeed at this!  Well, at least I do!

I learn a lot here on OH, Always. One thing I learned is that I need to deal with my depression before going into WLS. I Do Not want to go into WLS with the "mental baggage" I bottled inside my whole life. Emotional eating, always leading to over-eating, temporarily covers up guilt, pain, regret, loneliness, abuse... the list can go on and on. Going to a therapist and learning 'new ways' to deal with these issues can save a lot of disappointments after surgery. I have started going once a week to a Psychologist/Counselor that way after I do have surgery I'm not going into it with a whole host of negative baggage and not knowing how to deal with it when it arises... and when or if the past does creep up again then I will know how to handle it without using food as an escape. That will help to make this journey a successful one and one that the weight-loss can last a long time. I quickly learned that success will only go as far as you let it. We all can benefit from learning new ways to deal with bad habits and these professionals are trained to give us the ways to do that. Therapy before surgery is a great idea for those that need it, like myself. Just sayin

What great in site and wisdom......

I/we have seen many fall into the "trap" you described !

Big props to you for recognizing "the steps" to building a stronger foundation.

This will be a great positive step in your success !!!

I'm gonna guess that you would benefit from a strong bariatric surgeon and aftercare program. I know it has made a huge difference in my experience.

Hi frisco

I hope you, and everyone else, don't mind, but, I am going to copy and paste my message as a post in the VSG for others as myself who can benefit from reading it. It is important for me to get it out there for others as myself who suffer from food addiction as a way to cope with the emotions. I did post it in the main surgery forum but it's not as active as this one and I think it can reach more people here. Thank you all. Hope I don't offend anyone by reposting it. God bless
