Day 6
Its day six...and im having hard time getting any protien except for carnation instant breakfast. Yogurt, Applesauce, babyfood anything with that texture is causing me alot of pain from the second i swallow. However I tried cheese and that seems to go down fine. Any advice or suggestions? I cant do the protien shakes they taste awful to me.

At six days out I was still on clear liquids, and the clear protine was HORRIBLE, but I drank it anyway b/c I knew it was part of what my body needed to heal.
I use Power Maxx protine powder from GNC, I heat 8 ozs of milk and then blend in a scoop of powder and a packet of sugar free hot chocolate, it tastes pretty darn good.
At 6 days I would not even be attempting to eat yogurt, applecause or anything beyond full liquids (shakes, skim milk etc), you are too swollen and it's a recipe for disaster.

Yea, I dont really cuz I was still on clears on day 6. Maybe see if you can find some of the clear isopure, but you are saying you are already cleared for those things, I really dont know girlie. Maybe your throat is still sore from the tube?
Oh.. popscicles were good for me because the cool really helped soothe the swelling in my tum, although I didnt have any pain like you are having. Maybe get some popscicles?
What is your progression schedule for your food? And too, sometimes even tho we are cleared for a texture, it doesnt actually work for us, because all of us heal a bit differently.
Good luck girlie. day 7 protein isnt *the* most important thing, but cheese isnt going to help you stay hydrated.
You need to stay hydrated to stay out of the hospital, girlie.

This is what my progression looked like (as per my surgeon) -
Day 1- 7 Clear liquid ONLY
Day 8 - 14 Full Liquids (milk, shakes, very thin and strained cream soups)
Days 15-28 Blenderized foods, everything needs to be the consistancy of applesauce, blended soft chicken and fish, soft cheese, yougurt, blended cottege cheese etc.
Days 29 - 35 Soft foods - moist meats, potatoes, canned or baked fruits, canned or steamed veggies, oatmeal or other hot cereals useing your teeth to completely grind them to a pulp before swallowing.
Day 36 plus I am cleared for a regular diet as I can tolerate it
Edit to add -
My surgeon likes for us to weigh our food, so even for my blended foods that pretty much go right though I am weighing out 2 ozs at a time and taking my time eating them.

This is almost exactly what my diet progression is, except I was told I can have runny mashed potatoes and blenderized beans and cheese after day 15.
Yeah, I would step away from the texture for a bit and concentrate on liquids. I'm not exactly in love with protein either, but I deal with it because I have to. I use the Nectar protein unflavored. I mix 2 scoops with 16 oz of water with a packet of Crystal Lite.

For us, clears were the first week after surgery, so water, propel water, ice chips, flavored water, broths, consumme, skimmed milk, sugar free jelly (not puddin), sf popsc, sf fudgies, crystal light, tang, mild tea (no cinnamon), green teas, sugar free kool aid.
Full liquids, weeks 2 and 3, protein shakes (note if you have soy or dairy, in case you have an intolerance) milks (look out, some folks are seriously lactose intolerant right after surgery), soy milk (choosing unsweetened things is going to serve you well) plain sugar free gello, jello puddin, creamed soups (avoid tomato soups at first, just for acid issues, maybe wont have issues, but why risk it), chunky soups blenderized, yogurt wo chunks, carnation, ice milk, thin egg custard, sugar free hot cocoa, atkins shakes, applesauce, muscle milk, then week 4, this is after 3 weeks - 1 of clear and 2 of fulls) soft foods, so stuff you can smush thru the tines of your fork.
I was fine following the progression above girlie. Do though, look into some SF popscicles so you can stay hydrated. If you already feel puny, then being dehydrated and having to lug yourself to the ER is no good time!

I would strictly follow your surgeon's recovery plan. Didn't he lay out an eating progression? Usually it's something like 2 weeks of liquids, 2 weeks mushies, 2 weeks soft food.
But each surgeon has his own plan.
Did he tell you to move a little fast through gastric bypass diet? the sleeve heals faster?
I would say the sleeve heals differently. Entirely different surgeries. If your surgeon said it, then follow his instructions.
RE liquids and protein-----liquids are the most important followed closely by protein. I would suggest you find the most tolerable protein drink source and, if you have to, view it like medicine. Just has to be taken. It will help you heal. There are hundreds of choices available.
Good luck
