What Jo said! Why would you take something pretty safe long term like a sleeve and introduce a whole host of problems to it on purpose. I would be wary of a surgeon who even pushed that tbh.. That just sounds like bad mojo to me.

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

If anyone says the word "band" to me, I break out in hives. I had the lap band for 5 miserable years and about 5 months got the sleeve which has been the best thing I've ever done for myself. Read my lips, NO, NO, NO, oh and NO!!!

I was told before surgery that the chances of my sleeve stretching out too far was impossible because the part of the stomach that is removed is the stretchy part, the part that is left is not that elastic therefore your stomach will stretch but you will never  be able to accomodate more than a cup or cup and a half of food at each meal.  I would not go forward with it if I were you, your stomach size is being reduced as it is why would anyone want to put a band around what's left?

I would say no and choose a new surgeon. You have less than 100 pounds to lose. From what I have seen on this forum, you will do well with just the sleeve.

My sister had a Vertical Banded Gastrectomy years ago, and the band makes her (truly weird shaped after the surgery) stomach stay full longer. It alsoi makes her prone to getting food stuck there, and to sensitivity that makes many, many foods 'disagree' with her, and also to vomiting OFTEN, to the point she's lost most of her teeth due to acid damage. Same story with aeveryone else i ever knew who had the VBG.
I say NO to the band on the stomach! And VSG is not all that new; they did it for a long time as a peliminary to bypass, ds, etc. then started noticing that many patients didn't need the other surgery, VSG was good as a stand alone surgery..

It it were me I'd say a big fat NO to the banding proposition.
