So of course I had to come and respond to this post because it ruffled my feathers a little.  And as much as I hate to admit it I actually AGREE with it and I will say that I have been a victim of this.  When I got the VSG my reason for getting it was so that I could still eat what I wanted but in moderation.  I thought my issue was volume eating and not necessarily what I ate well boy was I wrong.  After spending 3 months in the hospital and not really being able to eat now that I'm able to eat for the past 2 months i went back to my old eating habits of eating what I want  just a LOT less.  WEll let me tell everyone that DOESN'T WORK.  I have only lost 7lbs in the past 2 months and after getting my butt chewed out on this board I have started to make DRASTIC changes.  I am now 5 months out and hopefully still in the honeymoon stage where my changes will still produce fast results.  If I could go back to when I was on this board everyday pre surgery I would have payed more attention to the posts about the actual diet changes rather than just people saying they could eat what they want in moderation.  I wanted to hear that so those are the posts I zoomed in on.  Ive lost 55lbs in 5months and I'm proud of that but I just think that if i hadn't been eating bad these past 2 months where would I be.  Newayz there is my  2 cents if your a newbie (which i think i still am to a certain extent) DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE you CANT EAT WHAT YOU WANT and still loose the weight well you will loose some but nowhere near what you want.  Its a struggle everyday for me but some of the people on this board have overcome the struggle even after struggling with it after surgery and those are the ones that motivate me!!!!

P.S. I have to say Im a popcorn victim :( i read somewhere that it was healthy and i ran with it...NOT ANYMORE its the DEVIL

My surgeon has one of the best techniques out there and I believe that since he does the smallest bougie possible  with vsg 24 i think but don't quote me his office isn't as strict on diet they inform you but in my opinion NOT ENOUGH!!! And you are right you guys have been kicking my butt (well some of you) and its actually WORKING i think about what is Frisco gonna say if i post i ate some cookies lol and I also think about how if i don't kick this now with my TOOL i might as well give it up!!!  I'm learning here that i wont like everything I read but its not meant to like everything some things are not suppose to be pretty and this journey is one of them!!!

I can't believe I just found this post!

Frisco look what you started ... I love it.

Will have to come back tomorrow and read them all.

All I can say right now is that I picked the best surgeon available to me and Liked his entire program and the follow up is great. I do follow the program given to me and have just started to add a few more calories on the weekends. I am 5 pounds from my goal at a little over 8 months out.

I don't read much on the main vsg forum because of all the things that you eluded to.

And I love POPCORN! (did have a little with my grandson when we saw Cars 2 at the theater and that little bit was YUMMY)

Keep stirring the pot frisco!!

Frisco,

I am still a newbie and still have a long way to go on my journey, but I have been lucky.  I am lucky to have a surgeon and his staff who emphasized that surgery is just a tool and your success depends on how you use the tool.  Their seminar, diet class, and support groups combined with the required six month diet and nutrition classes and my own extensive reserch whi*****luded soaking up information from veterans like you on this board helped prepare me for this journey.  I know I don't know it all yet and continue to learn from the veterans.I must admit though that sometimes I read about what some people are are eating, such as popcorn, and think it doesn't sound like such a good idea or that I don't recall seeing that on my food plan.  Anyway, thanks to you and the other veterans.  You are part of the reason for my successful start to this journey.

The sleeve is definitely getting popular.  First support group I went to.....almost all were RNY or Lap Band.  Now there are quite a few pre-ops for sleeve in there....and this is just since Dec 2010.

I don't mind the fail posts.....I try to help but I figure better you than me.  I'll learn from your mistakes so I don't do the same thing when I have surgery.

I wish there was a like button on here. Have not had surgery yet, but I am glad to use this time to eat healthy, exercise, get as much wt. off as is humanly possible before having surgery and more importantly, to educate myself constantly about the surgery and the commitment needed to be successful for the rest of my life.
