Agrees to be a food judge
I had forgotten that I had agreed to be a top chef judge in the local Harvest Fest because I agreed to it long before my surgery date... was not thinking I guess.
Then got the reminder call last night and when I tried to back out they said they were really short of judges so I told them I am EXTREMELY limited in how much I can eat so they better be prepared. I hate to leave a small local group that is raising money for a food bank in the lurch...
So now today I have to sample dishes from a dozen restaurants... just one dish per so I guess if I take the tiniest bite possible of each, try to not include too many carbs in each mouthful and chew real slow ... judges are are meant to savour stuff after all ... I just might manage it.
And I have to try and write down all the food items to somehow log it into MyFitnessPal tonight... yikes.
I know, I am some kind of stupid for not backing out but I am taking this as one more challenge, to do this without spoiling my success this far and without being hard on my newish little tummy.
Wish me luck...
Lynn

You can do it!  Tiny bites, really pay attention so you don't feel like you need a second taste!  A little bit of fakery, perhaps (that dish is poorly presented, not going to win anyway  = FAKE BITE!!!!)  Good luck.

I have no idea what to tell you except that you made me laugh out loud!  The sheer irony of being too involved with food and then being unable to give food the time it requires.  I'm sure you will figure out something to help the cause.  Thanks for helping them out and thanks making my day!  Cheers!

Thanks for all the replies and I like the suggestions like spitting into napkins and pretending to eat things... all that will help.
I am sure I will get through this and at the very least will have a good story to tell people in the weeks to come!
Now I better finish some more water so I can rest my tummy for half an hour before the madness begins...

You've been given some great suggestions!  It is a funny situation though....lol

I don't think I would even worry about trying to log it all into your food tracker....it's just one crazy day, give yourself a break and don't make yourself crazy over it!  Just don't let it be permission to go nuts!

Good luck to ya!

Good luck.   I doubt I could do it when I was only about 6 weeks out.  But I could do a great job now. Hope all goes well and you get to taste some great food.

Well, in case anyone is interested... I survived the food judging. Luckily, being on the west coast, there were several dishes with bits of fish ... some lovely rare tuna and a salmon cake that was great once I pulled most of the deliciously crunchy panko breading off of. And oh, yes, I had a taste of the breading and it was amazing. Just maybe a third of a teaspoon full to taste. Other things had chicken in them which worked too. And while the sauces and such were not likely to be found on any doctor list, I just put a dab on the tip of my tongue and surprisingly I was able to give lots of good comments in the judging.
All the other judges got a laugh out of it because they all finished their little servings from each of the restaurants and I did not but I just said I had recently had stomach surgery and had to be careful not to each rich foods and upset my stomach and then they commiserated with me for having to judge food when I could not eat it all but I was impressed at my willpower and at how much I enjoyed just being able to taste such lovely food and not HAVE to eat it all.
Hopefully this bodes well for when I reach goal that I will be able to control the kind and amount of things I eat.
And it was all super yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
