Sleeve after a Hysterectomy - will I lose?

I had a complete and total hysterectomy 4 years ago. I was 50. I do not take any hormone replacement therapy. I have lost 111 pounds in the past year. 34 pre-op by REALLY sticking to a 1500 calorie diet for just over 5 months, and then 77 pounds since VSG in late January.

I might not be the fastest loser out there -- but as far as I am concerned, losing 111 pounds in just over a year is HEAVENLY and I am happy and healthy too !!!

I started my journey just over a year ago at 300 pounds. I now weigh 188 pounds !!! Just today bought my first pair of size 14 pants !!! That's down from a 28 pant last year.

Sooooo YES, you can lose the weight with a VSG !

Oh wow! That's so great! I don't need fast weight loss. I just need weight loss.

Did you find that you had to be more restrictive than others?

I had a partial hysterectomy about 10 years ago, and the rest removed about 3 years ago. I did nothing but gain between the two procedures. I was sleeved in November and made it to my goal in 6.5 months! My average now is about 135, which is 5 lbs under my goal of 140. Looking back, even with the dreaded stalls, it was very easy to lose the weight. Now I have to work at NOT losing. It's different, that's for sure! Zero regrets, other than wishing I had done it sooner.

Thats wonderful! I had my hysterectomy almost a year ago - a week after my 40 birthday and am on a hormone patch. Everything is stable and I've had no problems with the Hyst. It was just SO HARD to lose even a 1 lb.

Well, it does seem that there is a light at the end of the tunnel with Hyst and the Sleeve.

Thanks!

I just want to thank you for posting this. I am having surgery on Wed, and I had a hysterectomy with a tummy tuck a little over a year ago. I have been packing on the pounds since then. I was also wondering if the hyst would hinder my weight loss in any way. I am also very concerned about the sleeve surgery procedure in that I don't have a lot of belly fat since having the tummy tuck. I'm stepping out on faith that this will all work out. Always remember nothing beats a failure but a try.  I don't have an answer to your question just yet, but I will surely revist this post once I am sleeved and I start losing. Take Care.

I have hypothyroidism, had a hysterectomy in 2005, AND am over 50; the surgery still works, don't worry!

I had a complete Hysterectomy in 1993.  I've been on HRT since.  I have hypothyroidism, am 50 years old and have Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue (so exercise is as I can tolerate it).  I've lost over 72 lbs in 5 months.  I average 1.5 - 3 lbs a week and that's just fine with me.  Once I am able to exercise more (with a little more weight off, the fibro won't effect me so bad), I think the weight loss will pick up some.  I kinda like the slow but steady pace because my skin is holding up well.

I dunno we're all different. I was goin thru medically induced meno during my RWL phase. I love havin a hyster too! One more week of reckless sex!
I wound up goin on a ORAL lo dose HRT for night time relief of symptoms for a few months..BIG MISTAKE!

ORAL HRTs/BC ..bad news! during the RWL IF you have a gallbladder and wanna keep it!
for ME..2 yrs post op...BAM! dealing with GALLBLADDER issues. Because of our age, gender, rapid weight loss, history of or currently taken ORAL estrogen  all increase our risk factors...IF you have a gallbladder and wanna KEEP IT/PREVENT another surgery.....have yer surg/pcp put ya on Actigall/Ursodiol for the first 6 months...HELPS!

Advantages of hot flashes...during thermogenesis (fat loss/metabolism) many times found myself prayin for a hot flash to warm me up. We get cold to the BONE!

Chk into supplementing w/ black cohosh, evening primrose oil for relief of meno symptoms also will help with the hair loss PHASE that hits us 3-4 months out!

I lost alot in spite of myself. 80 in 7.  I get what I give...can't complain
For us gals the more ya gotta lose the faster/more ya lose during the rapid weight loss phase..100% is up to you post VSG.  Its all individual.
optimize your rapid weight loss PHASE w/ VSG..dietary/burn (routine exercise) and it'll come off....real good!  If it don't ...sumthins terribly WRONG! wouldn't be yer hyster...look elsewhere.

BELIEVE!! YA GOTTA DO YOUR SHARE...cuz this ain't magic!
