The hospital that I will be having it done gave me a bottle of it. I can't wait either so excited and scared at the same time. I will be praying for you and hope you have a good recovery.

Liquids the 24 hours before surgery. No food or water after midnight the night before. Wash with antibacterial soap (plain Dial) the night before and the morning of. No lotions or perfumes. No laxative, he said that was only for RNY. I didn't have to take any meds at home but when I got to the hospital they started an IV and I got some Reglan and I don't know what all. Also got a nausea patch before surgery.

Double check on the magnesium citrate. They're not doing anything to our bowels so it's basically unnecessary! In our pre-op class that was on the power point for our pre-surgical day instructions, but then the nurse said "This is ONLY FOR RNY patients, NOT VSG." so you might want to call that one in. No need to go through that torture if you don't have to!

I had to shower with an antibacterial soap the morning of. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. No lotions, perfumes, etc. Only light polish on nails and toenails (no metallics). I was able to leave in my tragus piercing and my nose piercing, which was awesome (and cleared by my surgeon and anesthesiologist).

Forgot about those! I wasn't allowed any polish at all.. and they insisted on me removing my piercings due to the electro-cautery thingie they use.. even though I pointed out how far away from where they were working.. That was a pain since I still cannot get the balls back into my rook piercings, still carrying them in my purse for when I wander by a piercing studio.. Lol.

Weirdly enough, it seems a lot of VSGers are told to do the bowel prep?

I am soooooo glad I didn't have to do that! The logistics would have been hard for me since surgery was 2 hours away and I would have had to have taken it at noon the day before surgery, which would have put me in a car traveling to the city of surgery during the ummmm... production part of the process.

Sorry about your piercings :( My prep nurse gave me a container to put my stuff in (my nose piercing; the tragus could stay in, she said) but when I met with the surgeon before surgery, he said it was fine if I left it in if it was ok with the anesthesiologist, which it was, thank goodness! My piercing sort of corkscrews around so it's level with the inside of my nose. Thankfully it didnt' interfere with the cannula post-surgery either. I owuld have been sad to lose that piercing, and I probably would have since I'm sure it would have closed up quickly.

That's a good suggestion.  I didn't have a pre-op class, for some reason.  But I will be there tomorrow morning to meet with the psychologist.  I'll ask then.  It would be nice not to have to do that.  But seems so far like they have the RNY and VSG patients do a lot of the same things.  Probably makes it easier for them.

Easy or not, I'd rather my care not be lumped in with others, you know? I'm an individual with individual needs and I'd rather not do a bowel-cleansing if I didn't have to!
