pot luck success!

Well I made it through my first pot luck at church.  I made a dish to bring and set aside enough of what I could eat from the dish in a separate container and warmed it up and ate with everyone else.  While dessert was being put out, I helped do dishes in the kitchen and had a lot of fun talking and laughing with the others in the kitchen and never missed the other stuff.  I had such a good time singing and socializing with everyone!  It was so nice to go to such an event and enjoy it for the people and activities and not the food.

It's so freeing to not be controlled by food isn't it? Good for you!

Wow, I am so impressed!  I was told to come to the VSG forum for information specific to the WLS I've chosen and yours was the first post I read.  What an amazing idea to set aside your food first so you don't have to go through the line and possibly make bad choices! You know you've got a healthy choice and appropriate portion before you arrive, so there's no need to be apprehensive!  Doing dishes through the dessert phase? Brilliant!

Absolutely invaluable information! Thank you, momsy! (cute name too!)

Thanks all!  It did feel so freeing to not focus on the food.  Our church is a small community and everyone who knows about the surgery has been so supportive, it was great!

It is super hard but you did AMAZING!!!  Good for you and keep up the great work.  It is nice when you can enjoy people's company and not think about food.

Eat to live not live to eat!

Thanks Nicole!  I usually pig out at those events, so it was doubly freeing to not feel the need.  I am still on cloud nine from having had the surgery and losing weight.  I just hope that future events go as smoothly.  It really was fun focussing somewhare other than on the food.
