I've only lost 16 lbs in 6 weeks and getting rather frustrated with how slow I'm losing. I'm trying to keep my water and protein up and carbs low but I fail to do so on some days but not all the time.
Just curious...Why the obsession with carbs if you are only eating 800-900 calories a day? I don't understand, since even the standard low cal diets recommend that you can eat up to 1500 calories a day and this should cause you to lose weight. I know you lose faster on a high protein but shouldn't one lose if they are only consuming 800-900 calories a day regardless of protein or carbs?
Any other slow losers out there that finally met your goal?

I am right there with you! I'm 7 weeks and at 22lbs but three of them r from this week. I upped my water/fluid this week and the scale is finally moving!
All we can do is keep doing what were doing and accept that we are unfortunately not going to lose quickly...
Hang in ther fellow slow loser apparently you and I are in this together

I'm still pre-op, but I am insanely jealous of your weight loss so far post-op! 16 lbs in 6 weeks is averaging about 2.5 lbs per week. On diet/exercise, they tell you that 1-2 lbs/week is normal. Don't forget that your body is healing and probably held on to some water post surgery.
Regarding the carbs, as was explained to me by my PCP and exercise consultation trainer... carbs are more easily broken down by the body (as compared to proteins). Carbs are converted to sugars, and what doesn't get used gets stored as fats. Protein will help you to feel fuller longer, and actually burns MORE since it takes more energy to break them down. 4 oz of chicken will do more for you hunger wise, weight loss wise, and staying fuller longer-wise, than 4 oz of pasta.
Believe me, I'm a recovering carb addict so changing to higher proteins is a huge huge struggle for me. Hang in there...you've LOST 16 lbs, not gained them, which is awesome. Before you know it, another 16 will be down...and then another, and another, and another! :)

No one understands more than I do about how fast we want the weight to come off. Trust me, I was so very frustrated with my weight loss as a heavy weight (400 pounds to start) as it was so slow and I had a very LONG stall at 11 days post-op that just devastated me.
I am going to share the single most important thing that I learned on this journey. Slow losing is still losing!! Follow the plan and have faith that it will work and let the rest take care of itself. I am living proof that the weight will come off if you follow your plan. I followed my Dr's plan to the T and had faith that I would make it on this journey eventually. Well, here I am at 19.5 months out and down 215 pounds and still losing. Your body will let go of the weight when it is ready and not a second before. Obsessing about it will only create anxiety for you and set you up to be disappointed and to possibly slide back into old habits. Change the mindset...and you will get there. Remember this is a lifetime journey not a sprint to the finish line...even though we all want that instant gratification. Let the fact that you know you are following plan be your instant gratification and the eventual weight loss be your crown.
Best of luck to you. It will happen. Be deligent, faithful and patient.

Thank you. I had to learn this very hard lesson very early on. I would have been doomed to misery if I had not made peace with it. Once I quit focusing on how fast everyone else was losing and how slow I was losing, it seemed to really pick up.
You will get there. Slow and steady also wins the race...we all cross that finish line at some point. My goal is just to get there whenever that may be...getting closer and closer everyday...even if it is only a few ounces everyday.
Thank you for your amazing words of encouragement. I needed this. Although my weight loss might not seem slow to others 48 lbs. total since week b4 surgery, I have been stuck in stall for 3 weeks and have become very discouraged. Your post is very inspiring and made me feel better about my progress thus far. I myself need to lose 215 lb. altogether to get to my goal weight. Your right about this being a lifetime journey and not sprint to finish line. Sometimes I totally lose focus of this, esp. when I step on the scale and the numbers aren't moving. Thank you. Kerry
Thank you and you are very welcome. It is rewarding to hear that your experiences are helpful to others. Makes you want to share that much more. Check out my blog on my profile page and read about my biggest stall. You will truly get the picture of what I went through to get to the point of acceptance of this being a lifelong journey vs a sprinting race to the finish line in record time.
It sucks. I had my surgery 8/1/11 and in the first 12 day i lost not one pound. then at my 6 week Dr's visit i had lost 8lbs. last week i found myself in a store that sold scales and after weighing on 10 scales i supposedly had gained 4 of that 8lbs back. i just sent my Dr an email telling him i wanted him to recommend labs above the 3 months ones. i asked him to also do labs to see what the problem is. i am completely compliant from day 1 and work out. there is no way I'm eating 600-800 calories a day and maintaining and i have never been a slow loser. now i started off a lightweight 188 but for the scales not to lose at all, seems impossible. i had lost 10lbs in the week before surgery and had always lost when on a diet so i don't know what has happened. I will let you know what labs he orders and the results. I was pretty content to let it ride until my 3 month check-up as i just presumed the first 6 weeks were an anomaly but when i stepped on that scale last week i felt as if i had to have an answer as i just felt completely passive about my loss. i don't own a scale and that has always worked for me until i get to goal. Anyhow it seems like you had a 14 day stall in there, without that your loss may seem slow but it is steady. i also looked at old posts of people who started at my weight and looked at their progress you should too. What i found is that most of them got to their goal within the first year. It did help calm me down, it might help you too. Good luck
