Home from surgery!
Hello mi familia!
Surgery was a rousing success this last Thursday. I ended up staying 2 nights due to vomitting a bunch, but I have not thrown up since I left yesterday morning. I managed to get in a good amount of protein and fluid today, and even fit in an ounce of baby food pears for lunch. I'm going to attempt broth for dinner tonight. I'm actually not having any problems meeting 4 ounces of fluid per hour. Sometimes I can manage more. It kind of confuses me that I'm able to, considering my surgeon told me he gave me a very small sleeve. I suppose that just means I have to be extra careful how I consume in the future-- my case will not be what a lot of others do!
The only thing that really concerns me is how often I am sleeping. I feel like the hour or two naps I take during the day is sabotaging my intake schedule. I sleep about 5-6 hours a night, getting up every so often to walk, restroom and drink. I'd say I nap twice a day. Is this pretty normal? Also, how often should I be walking? I'd say I'm on the move fairly regularly, but there are times I just want to sit. My back will be sore from poor posture, I'm tired of sloshing, etc.

So glad you are feeling better! I also spent Thursday night in the surgical center, but was able to go home Friday morning. Surgery went well for me too except they found I have a very small airway and had a lot of trouble getting me intubated which left me with a very sore throat. Today finally I am feeling back to normal. I'm still having a problem trying to drink my water...it just doesn't taste good! SF popsicles are my best friend right now. I'm just trying to remember to walk, sip, and rest! Hopefully the walking will help with all this gas!
Walk at least every 4 hours while awake. Don't let anybody wait on you. Get up and get your own drinks-it's better that way, the more you move the quicker you feel better. I had the sleep issue too. Try to avoid the naps as much as possible to sleep better at night. It took me about 5 days to get my sleep cycle right. You really will feel better soon. Good luck.
Welcome home and congratulations on being sleeved!! I am sorry you had a rough start, but it sounds as if now you are doing well.
Feeling sleepy the first few days at home is very normal, but just as the above post stated...it is best to reach a regular night time sleeping schedule as soon as you can.
I walked around the house every hour until I went to bed at night. I even would walk outside twice a day for 1/2 mile right at the beginning and I really attribute this to a speedy recovery. I increased my distance the stronger I became.
Try to get your fluids in and your protein shakes and take extra good care of yourself and in no time you will be feeling great!
Best wishes!
