You'll hear lots of horror stories from people. Most start with something they heard about a friends, cousins, mechanic having issues.

Ignore them.

My mom had the gastric bypass & her Dr. told her it does shorten your life. That was for the GB surgery. I never herd that for the VSG surgery.

Your bosses comments are counter to everything my doctors have told me and what common sense tell you.

Going from morbidly obese to a normal weight has added years to my life, as per all my doctors.

Also, getting rid of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea has also added years to me life.

Your boss is misinformed.

Let me just say this: even if that load of crap was true, I'll take living an active, healthy, sexy lifestyle and dying a litle earler over being trapped in a fat body, always aching, in pain, and miserable but getting to live that painful exsistance longer.

Your boss is wrong and I wonder what her real motives are in "sharing" this with you. There is no scientific evidence that I know of that shows that VSG patients live shorter lives, exactly the opposite is true. I would just nod and move on to other topics.

The only way I can see your life being shortened after VSG would be that you were living life and while doing something like mountain climbing you fell off the mountain....if you are living a sedentary life because of overweight keeping you down, you run the risk of a mountain of health risks that can kill you too. So if you have to die 10 years early how do you want to do it? Sitting in your barko-lounger with a bag of donuts and watching someone on tv living life or do you want to be the one doing the living?

Maybe your boss heard wrong. What if the original story was that VSG takes 10 years off your age? As in, you look and feel 10 years younger?

You know that old telephone game we all played in grade school where the story has to get passed one by one through the classroom and the end story is waaaaaay different than the beginning one.
