So is basil pesto with olive oil okay for after surgery?  It is so yummy on my chicken, not sure what I'd do without it!   It does have a fair few calories from the fat in the oil so just wondering if ya'll have worked it into your diets at all.

I love it, but I do stick to fairly small amounts. It's wonderful on chicken, shrimp, or smeared on a little high fiber/low carb bread with a piece of provelone melted on top for an appetizer.
You want to wait until you are ok'd for full foods, not purees, because it has chopped nuts in it that can stick in a stich line, but afterwards it's all good.

Use it frequently, particularly on grilled salmon.  I just count it in my calorie intake for the day.  But I don't go for the low-fat, no-fat thing.  When I eat fat, I eat the regular stuff - and just fit it into my calorie budget.
