protein shakes and nausea??
I'm a pre-op patient supplimenting a meal with a protein shake. I read on a previous post that some were experiencing nausea with protein shakes. WELL, I am too! The past week I have been feeling so sick. I take my shake in the morning, with a multivitamin....I really think it's the combo of the two that is doing this to me....any thoughts out there??
You are right! I think it's the vitamin that's making you sick to your stomach. The protein shake isn't very filling and it's not like having "dense" food so when you take your multi....it's making you sick. Take your multi after lunch when you've had some food in your stomach. And the same goes for when you are "Post Op"....I too get sicky feelings if I don't have much on my stomach.
I'm afraid it's my gallbladder....damn....I blamed it on protein shakes and vitamins together in the morning, but it happened at lunch too!! Just another friggin Dr to see. I'm so afraid this will compromise my surgery in Jan,,,,ugh........if it is my gallbladder, do you know if they can remove it at the same time as getting sleeved?? I'm blaming it on the high protein, low calorie diet I've been on.
well, thanks for your reply...and I'll keep you posted on THIS saga

In a previous thread I read that many folks have problems with them in the morning. Personally I don't have any problem with nausea and protein shakes (I love them at any time), I have a shake for breakfast every day. Everyone is different though - if I've learned nothing else from these boards I've learned that.
The suggestions I read in that thread were to have them later in the day, it seemed to have worked best for several posters. Maybe give that a try.

i'm the weird one. the multi problem sounds very reasonable. but i got sick just from drinking the protein shakes -- they tasted fine, but made me feel awful. had to send a HUGE box of protein powders to a fellow OH'er who couldn't afford the stuff. haven't heard too many people complain about this though, so i figure i'm just odd. good luck!!
