What stage can we have rice (in soup)?
My NUT said no rice, pasta, bread, crackers, etc for a year. Still haven't had any of that at this far out.
Certainly you don't want to have those small grains of rice for a long time---they could cause a problem. Even if it's an approved food, I would guess a minimum of 6 months before approval.
Congrats on your surgery---keep straining the soup.

Congrats on doing well.
You can have rice when you're cleared for soft foods, but just because you can doesn't mean you should.
We really want to stick to proteins followed by veggies and fruits with a tiny bit of low glycemic, high fiber carbs, and even Brown Rice is fairly high on the glycemic/carb meter. I do eat Wild Rice and tiny amounts of Brown Rice once in a while, but I treat White Rice like Potatoes, Cake, Sugar-Bread and other not-so-good-for me foods.
Something you may want to play with is Quinoa: a high fiber, low glycemic and high protein grain. It cooks up just like rice, tastes like whatever you put on it (great for stir frys, cheese sauces, under chops and stews and to make meat loaf instead of oats or bread crumbs or in a lemon soup!!).
Keep on going strong! Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely, I never intend to go carb crazy. Everything in very small moderation. As with all diet plans, it's good to have a "naughty" food once in a while so you don't go insane. Spoonful of ricey stuff down the road will be good for my sanity, methinks! Luckily for me I am a voracious carnivore-- protein will NEVER be a problem!
Great suggestion too, I definitely will look into that and take a crack at it in a month or two! Thanks much!

Moderation is the best policy, in general. Most nutrients are best sourced from a wide range of foods, and with our limited volume, that does leave a lot of room to have a good variety of foods since we can't have enough of any of them to really damage things (unless one's definition of moderation is having only half a box of DingDongs!) Even bread, down the line, in the form of some whole grain type is a good source of complex carbs (cover your ears, low-carb evangelists!) as part of a good pre-workout snack/meal.

My program has rice and beans on the first (of two) phases right out of the hospital, as tolerated of course. I did do chicken noodle soup after the first week or so and that was OK, too.
It all depends on what your program calls for when, but from a healing compatibility perspective, rice seems to be OK (this from a surgeon with around twenty years experience with sleeves.) Carbwise, it depends on how evil your program considers them to be - I haven't done much rice since it's not the greatest nutritional bargain calorie-wise, but do have it as a complement to beans sometimes (to complete the protein) in mexican food.
