i'm 3 + weeks out, started purees a few days ago and am wondering how the heck everyone is getting in their liquids while eating?  i can't drink 30 min. before meals, takes me 30 min. to eat, and can't drink 45 min. after meals.  that knocks out 1 h 45 min. per meal that i can't drink.  i'm really down on liquids since starting purees.

anyone having this same issue?

Yes, I remember that being tricky--especially if you're eating about 5 times a day like I was.  My guidelines called for only waiting 30 minutes after, and over time I found that I actually could drin****il about 15 minutes before eating.  Other than those little time shaves, all you can do is constantly sip when it's legal to sip.  It will get better, I promise.  Good luck.

I have a bottle of water with me 24/7.  I have a 24oz bottle.  I make it a rule to drink 5 of these a day.  I drink one on my drive to work.  2 during the work day. 1 on the drive home.  that leaves one to drink in the evening.  Yes it is alot, but it is what are bodies need.  Also when you are full, you will not feel hungry or give into a need to snack betwwen meals.

I have been very lucky, I do not have hunger....I'm so happy about this.  I do sometimes have a problem getting all my protein in, because I forget to eat.  I NEVER thought I would ever say that in my life.  HA HA

You aer still very early in your journey, these things will come in time.

Good Luck to you....enjoy the ride.. :)

This drinking-eating-drinking thing has been one of the hardest parts of this for me.  I never ever drank during my meals *before* surgery, but I did drink a lot afterwards, so waiting has been hard.

I am eating 4 times a day right now.  So that does leave some major breaks for drinking.  I really push the fluids when I'm on drinking time.  I have been fortunate that I can handle liquids as fast as I could before surgery (but I'm no gulper), so I push push push.  I have a one-liter bottle at work.  I drink 2 cups of decaf when I get in, then push through that one liter before I stop, wait 30 minutes, and eat lunch.  I feel a little water-logged, but that's 50 ounces.

In the afternoon, I've been drinking 2 large glasses of iced decaf coffee, with some almond milk in it.  I find i can drink more of this than water, even flavored water, plus I feel virtuous about not wasting the pot of decaf I made in the morning.  That's 40 ounces.  I also have to drink some before/after exercise in the evenings.  I was afraid I'd be getting up all night to pee, but I have been just fine.

I used to wake up with cotton mouth right after surgery, but I'm finally feeling like I must have gotten the hydration back up to pre-surgery levels now.
