So this is what 'normal' feels like?!?!
So, I'm just past three months out from my sleeve (healing went super, had no real digestive problems) and I am down 38 lbs.... not setting any records for sure, but still, it's going down and that's OK.
But from what I have read here so often, I guess at three months I'm really normal in that
1: my scale has not budged in 13 days... not one freakin ounce despite the fact that I have put two hour-long sessions of aquacizes and one-hour long session of Zumba into the mix for the past couple of weeks (I couldn't do much beyond walking the first couple of months because of a major umbilical hernia I had repaired at the same time as the sleeve and my surgeon urged some caution)
2: my hair is falling out like crazy starting about a week ago. I mean I'm hardling going bald but I'm losing about the same amount in a day as I used to lose in about a week (judging from what I'm yanking out of my hair brush.
So since I hear that a three-month stall is normal and that hair loss at about three months is normal, I guess I am just too freakin normal for words.
Sigh, I am happy about the lost pounds and I have lost several inches on my hips and waist and getting all kinds of sagginess in other spots which indicate weight loss ... I just wish these two indications of normality would please go away so we could get back to the scale moving and the hair staying put!
I'll just stay on program and keep up the exercise and try working out harder at each session and hang my hope on the changes to come.
Lynn

I'm sorry you're at this rough place. I'm behind you surgically so I have no words of wisdom, just protein protein protein and you might try biotin. I already have thinning hair so if I lose much I'll be bald! If the thinning gets noticeable you might want to rework your hairstyle. Due to thinning on the crown, I have to keep that hair short or it flops over and show my naked scalp, which means I've been rockin a mullet for years!

Put in google "hair loss, trauma, weight loss surgery". There's a name for it, found the reading very interesting.
What I did read though is that when we hit the actual loss, it's mostly on it's way to resolving. The hair was "traumatized" by a combination of surgery and rapid weight loss so it went into the mode where it stops growing. Only instead of 10% like normal hair loss, we got more like 30+%. Some even more.
The tricky part for us is that we keep shorting ourselves food, so we may not see an immediate growth back, like some other forms of hair loss see at this point. Seems that when we can get our calories up a little more, it will come back then.
Very good reading. I just bought an additional suppliment with biotin of niacin. I need to read more, it's not something you can just pop daily and ignore, it's got to be taken carefully.
I'm trying to figure out which Nioxin hair shampoo to buy LOL. There are so many!!
And I've lost more hair than I care to discuss. I had a thick head of hair, now you can see through it on the crown of my head to the scalp
Been wearing it pulled up, or I have to brush some of the sides back over the crown.
But I'm still thankful to have my tool. I had a stall at 2 months, went a couple weeks with no loss. It's coming off again but I've added in fruits/veggies because my good cholesterol and my white blood count are both extremely low. I didn't like that... So I'm juicing once a day with a combo of fresh fruits/veggies just to get a little in. Seems to be helping. Oddly adding a little carbs spurred loss!

Cant believe it's been 3 months already!! Did you ever think you'd class yourself as "normal"? ::shudder:: Ah well, it's a marathon, and I know you're too stuborn to let it win.
Kick that scale across the room and keep on aquasizing!
And hey girlfriend, if anyone can manage to rock the bald look it would be you!! Just in time for Halloween!!

Hi there,
Congrats on losing the 38 lbs. I went through the stall at 3 weeks out, had me really pulling my hair out because I thought I was doing something wrong :( Thankfully when I came back on this site I see that is really pretty normal and after two more weeks the scale started to move again.
In regards to the hair loss: There is a website called Bariatriceating.com, it sells a product called Hair balance and it works wonders. They also sell a lot of other products that are specially made for us like vitamins, protein shakes, recipes etc.
I recommend that you try the hair balance, it helped a friend of mine who was almost completely bald before starting to take it. Please let me know how it goes for you
Good luck.

Hey Lynn,
my hair started to come out about the 2 month mark and as is norm for me the weight loss is crawling along too...... much slower than I had hoped but still moving downward. It helps when you see or hear from others that are experiencing the same thing. My skin started to look dull and dry so I have begun taking Vit A and I think it's helping although too soon to tell. Still......it's all worth it isn't it? The scale will drop soon.... I promise...
