Family & Co-workers
I really don't understand why people get threw their thick heads that I have already decided to do this!! I stopped in @ work today to give them my paper from the Dr office stating the reason they puched back my surgery to 11/8 & the lady that works in the office asked me to come in and close the door! She asked me why I wanted to get this done when I have done so well with loosing the weight myself!! I think she just wanted to make sure I'm doing it for the right reasons! But jezz how much can you get into someones life!! lol!! She told me that my pic of me that was in the paper for my wedding announcement that I looked beautiful!! I said thank you & she said you can look someone in the eye when you recieve a compliment!! I guess that is gonna take some practice!! I just don't understand ppl sometimes but I do appreciate the concern!!
VSG on 02/08/12
I am still considering VSG, and I work in a small company consisting of 4 people including the me. I have no idea how I will take off for week(s) after surgery because if one of us gets sick it is hard to cover each others shifts... I have talked about it to my co-workers (who are all stubborn boys!) and they are all against it and tell me to exercise and eat right. It is a part time job while I go to school full time, so I figure I might as well get it done now before I get a full time career...
I had similar issues w/my family & co-workers. Basically, Americans are very ignorant of these surgeries. Not too mention the number of people that have had terrible experiences w/some of the procedures in the infancy stages. I constantly find myself in the educator role because there are so many misconceptions about WLS but ESPECIALLY VSG.
Bottom line: you know the reasons why you feel this is necessary and stand your ground! Whether people will give you your props or not, this is a tool not a quick fix. There is major work ahead and us postops work harder at weight loss than non surgical people when we follow the postop guideliness.
People just don't understand the sensitiveness of WLS and how to respond as such.

These are some of the reasons I didn't tell anyone outside of my husband and kids about my surgery. NO ONE understands if they are not 1. Obese 2. Have lost and regained hundreds of pounds in their lives. Losing weight is not the issue, keeping it gone is the issue. Your office personnel has no business bringing you in and closing the door and asking you questions. That is personal medical information that only you and your Dr share. I would simply say that the decision is based on your PERSONAL medical history and supported by your Dr and family. Period..
As for worrying about your absence in the office causing a problem, thats what temps are for.
