First Consultation

I had my first consultation today with one of the surgeons at Nassau University Medical Center here on Long Island. I liked the surgeon. The only thing that I didn't like was that he first tried to persuade me to get the Lap Band. I used my knowledge of slippage, erosion, and the increase in revisions recently to argue my point to have VSG. Honestly, by the time the meeting was over he had to take a deep breath and say " well, you are more knowledgable than most people that come in here and some medical professionals." I simply laughed it off. He was shocked that someone my age knew everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly. He tried to sell me the gastric bypass. I laughed and said "nope, I am iron deficient and I don't need a malabsorptive procedure. It wouldn't make sense." He agreed. His concern was that there isn't long-term research for VSG and I said there is if you follow the people who did the first stage of the Duodenal Switch. LOL!!! He looked at my mom and said, "There is no winning with this girl. She is so smart. She really did her research." It was so funny!

So, I have the seminar on the 9th of November, support group on the 28 of November, psych evaluation asap, endoscopy asap, sleep study asap, and clearance letters from my doctors. The Nurse told me that I should be looking to have my surgery some time in the beginning of December. YAY!!!!!! I am so happy!!!! No more smoking from tomorrow on. I don't mind. Can't wait until I am on the loser bench.

GOOD FOR YOU for doing all your research! I truly believe it makes all the difference in your point of view for recovery and learning to live your new lifestyle. Clap clap clap! I wish more people (all WLS people) would be so progressive and more involved in their own life when looking towards this surgery!

I'm also surprised this doctor, however, didn't know that the VSG was first of all, a procedure done decades ago for stomach cancer patients (perhaps he did and just had his hands full with you ) with tremendous results (if the cancer hadn't spread of course).

I'm happy that he's also requesting you to do all the above procedures and not just expecting you to show up for surgery on X date. Conquer that evil smoking monster and you're gonna rock rock ROCK this sleeve!!

Thank you for the positive support and I definitely will do my research. Thanks for the heads up because I did not think to do that.
