Hey Jennifer,

It's pretty easy to figure out...... If you are not gaining or losing........

You have found your balance point........

That's why maintenance for most of us has not been a big change in eating from WL to maintenance.

If you want those last few pounds........gotta fight for them !!!!

I can't remember...your like under 10lbs. away??????

Ask yourself when the last time you only had 10lbs. to lose?????

I say if you want them..... knock em down a few pounds at a time.....

Try cutting one meal out a day for a week and see if the scale moves.....

Hope this helps....

Hi Frisco,
I have a question for you.  I have been struggling with these last 10 pounds.  I loose a pound, gain a pound.  Loose 2 - gain 1.  I honestly can't figure out why I gain and lose on what seeems like a daily basis.  How do I make changes when, it seems, when I do make a change it doesn't stick?  I know I'm probably not making much sense but this has been a 6 month struggle and I'm almost to the point where I'm going to call it quits and just keep this weight as my goal.

I do exercise 4 times a week and lift weights 2 days a week.

Anyway, I am going to try and see what happens when I keep my calories low.

The only way to really know from my personal experiance is to try something..... and try it for a full 7 day week.

The first would be 6-800 cals. under 40grms carbs, fluids and your exercise.

Next would be a true 600 cals a day and maybe 20-30 carbs.....for a week.

After that, you may have to be that weight for a while......heck you may be done!

10lbs from goal means you have done great !!! and I would think you feel pretty good about it!!!

The last 10-lbs. gets personal......It's all you and how you wanna deal with it.....

Not that I'm a vet... But I've found a great low calorie, high protein food- beef jerky!  I believe the stuff I have at home is 15 grams of protein and 80 calories for a one ounce serving.

I agree with your observation since it has been my reality.

I kept to the 600-800 calories per day and reached my weight loss goal. I'm in maintenance and average 800-1000 calories per day. With dense protein and limiting carbs you feel a lot of restriction which makes maintenance easy.

I maintain my assertion that lowering calories that drastically for an extended period of time wreaks havoc on metabolism, and will eventually make maintenance more of a pain in the ass.

Just my .02... Prob not even worth that! Lol, but I am sticking to it!

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

Nothing really to back this up......

We all read the same info...... here is my observation after over 2 years on this forum as a student of WL through WLS/VSG

- A lot of people that stick to a 1200 or so calorie eating plan..... Have a hard time making goal.....

- A lot of people that stick to the 600-800 calorie program make goal......

Just an observation..... not telling anyone what to do.....we all read the same info......just an observation......

While I'm not to goal yet, I am getting close enough to goal (19 Lbs to go!) that I can comment on what has worked for me. For rapid and consistent weight loss 600-800 calories of high protein - low carb - low fat has been the way to go. Whenever I have increased my calories to the 1000 - 1200 range I actually gained back a few pounds and my felt like I was in maintenance mode. This is because my carb and fat count both went up when I increased my calories. I have used myfitnesspal.com to track my food religiously since my second month post-op (Thanks Doc!) and I'm a proponent of weighing, measuring, and tracking everything you put into your mouth. Having lost a mind blowing 161 Lbs to date (just 8 months post-op) I'm convinced that sticking to the rule of protein first, keeping to the fluid rule of 30-0-30, and tracking your intake truly will give the results we all desire. The VSG gave me back my willpower, the diet and exercise are all on me!

Hi Frisco and OH family,

I am finding it hard to stay within the 600-800 calorie mark with just meals and 2 snacks. Can anyone give me some advice on what to eat to maintain within these calorie guidelines?

I am having a hard time with portion control as well and have stopped buying snacks in bags because I don't feel disciplined enough to take out the required ounce amount and put up the rest for later!! I know it's all about control, but that is very hard at times. I am almost 5 months out and feel like I am sabatoging myself because of my lack of self-control at times with food!  thanks for any advice!!

Right now, if it isn't protein.. I don't eat it. My "snacks" when I decide to have one is usually 1/2 of a protein wafer bar (105 cals, 4 carbs, 7g protein.) I like them, but have them maybe 1x a week.

I have a protein coffee or 1 scoop Click plus 2 scoops unflavored protein (140 cals, 6 carbs, 27prot).. then a cheese stick later (80 cals, 1 carb, 8prot)..

lunch is meat & cheese, leftovers or something like it.. aprox 100 cals, 0-3 carb, 12-14g prot.. dinner is the same.. sometimes I get in one more protein supplement if needed or wanted.. then maybe I may have a Carbmaster yogurt later as a snack/dessert. My totals are generally around 600 cals a day (sometimes low in the 500's, sometimes high in the 700's), well under 20g carbs most days and 70+ protein. As far as portion control, since I eat protein at every meal.. so far my stomach still calls no more at about 1.75-2oz max. I have hungry days too on occasion, but it's very easily satisfied..

This is more a head game than a physical stomach game.. the further out you get, if you have not dealt with compulsive eating issues, it will bite you. Don't let it get out of control, if you have an issue- get to a therapist to help!
