I'm so frustrated. I don't know if it's the mask or machine. I am not staying sleep throughout the night. I wake up, on average 3-4 times a night with a very dry mouth and also with phlegm in my throat. I still wake up tired and still napping during the day. I just don't understand why I can only sleep for 2 hours on this thing and then I'm popping up. Btw, I'm on the ResMed S9 (with humidifier) I set humidifier between 65 and 70. I have been on this machine for months, I'm not a newbie. On top of all this, I take Ambien. I know for sure I should be getting at least a full 8 hours of sleep. Help me please!! I am so tired, I just want to rest. My 18 month old son is very active and keeps me busy all day long. I need my rest. My current sleep physician and I have discussed this and she keeps switching different masks but clearly that is not working. I need a solution. This is my 3rd or 4th mask. They all are uncomfortable. What should I do? Should I be seeing another sleep dr or what, I don't know. Help me.

Sleepapnea.org has a great message board with a very helpful and knowledgeable community.  You may want to try posting there.

This happened to me a while ago and is slowly getting better.  I use nasal pillows and think I need a new mask, but I also found myself mouth-breathing so I improvised a chin strap to keep my mouth closed, which seems to be helping.

Frustrating, since I love my CPAP and feel so much better with it.  I hadn't had any problems for the first 6 months I wore mine, either.

I have loosened my mask, almost to the point it will leak. I was like you and couldn't sleep but once it was a little loose I've been able to sleep . Try putting the humidifier on the lowest setting it sounds like its a little too warm and drying you out.
Good Luck!!

I find that I have trouble sleeping as well.  But on the days that I walk at least 6,000 steps, I do sleep better.  I guess I am tired from the walk.  I find that having some turkey lunch meat helps me to get to sleep.  I do sleep with the tv on, it rocks me to sleep.   When I wake up, I try to eat a yogurt or cheese stick.

After sleeve surgery and I had lost enough wait - I had the same issue, so my doctor told me to stop using the machine and see if I was exhausted againw without it.  It seems that I didn't need my machine any longer which was why I couldn't sleep with it on.  I don't know what weight you are at, but I hope you find out what you can do so you can sleep.

Go to a full face mask.  It works like a charm.  I still wake with very dry mouth however...
