Our bodies are like a kicked dog.......

You know, I was reading posts earlier about how we should love our bodies, not have unreasonable expectations and BLAM!.....I had an thought...........our morbidly obese bodies are like an abused animal.

Now stay with me here...my mind works in mysterious ways, I know.  And I have the attention span of a shcizophrenic chicken so I need to be quick before I get distracted.....

Animals, especially dogs, are such wonderous, loving, forgiving creatures.  They can be starved, abused, neglected, abandoned, tortured and discarded but all it takes is a little loving care and they give back 100 times worth the  love, loyalty and devotion for small kindnesses.  They still have scars, both emotional and physical.  They may still cringe or be afraid.  But they will blossom with so very little given to them.

Our bodies have been like that.  For years, (all our lives for some of us) we have taken this beautifully functioning, engineering wonder that we call the human body and tried to destroy it with little exercise, pitiful fuel, toxic ingredients, etc.  We over ate.  Sat on our asses.  Ate what tasted good without thinking about what went in our bodies.  We abused ourselves for whatever reason, over and over until our bodies were a tortured mess.

Granted, some of us  suffered from the damage of our bodies.  We couldn't breathe or move or had horrible diseases that made us miserable.  Maybe some of us didn't know better and the body abuse started when we were very small and we couldn't control it.  But we compounded it by continuing old habits.

Then one day, that first act of kindness.  We started this wonderful journey and gave ourselves this precious gift.  We took control and started being kind to our bodies.  We exercise, give our bodies good fuel, put wholesome things inside it to nouri**** from the inside and quit being generally abusive to ourselves.

We can't undo all the damage.  Some of us still have arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and other ailments that were worsened or in some cases the result of our abuse.  But like those poor dogs, our bodies are forgiving us for all of it and they are blooming.  They are coming back to being whole.  Our bodies are loving us again as we love them.

OK..... enough of the sappy stuff this is the real me in a nut shell and is in line with all the boot talk

Seriously....I love you all and can't imagine making this journey without you!

Love this!  The whole theme of being grateful for your body is one that is often so foreign to the morbidly obese - we are used to hating our bodies.  This change in mindset, going from hating to being grateful and nuturing, seems like a huge key to long term weight loss success.
