I have had prob 7 procedures/surgeries done that have required me to be put under, and when I've come too my recovery immediately after has been hellish. I vomit on ice chips even. And vomit til nothing but bile comes up. My concern is that with having staples newly into my stomach.. is my getting so soon after if I do going to put me at risk of damaging myself?

I was very nauseous post op, and spent the whole first night vomiting (really dry heaving b/c there was nothing in my stomach). It was miserable but short lived and no damage. My surgeon said nausea post-op is very common with this surgery, so Im sure there are many who spend a day (or a few) vomiting with no ill effects. Good luck!

well, I came to vomiting.....they did give me some anti-nausea soon after and any time in the next day I got sick they came running with meds to help me. The nurses in post op and on the floor (if they are good) will be on top of it. It could cause damage if it persists...but I dont think you will have that issue because they will be prepared for it. (hugs)

I was sick and vomiting post-op which was the worst part of the surgery. Within 24hrs I was doing good. Day two post-op, I wasn't taking hardly any medication except for tylenol. I am very pleased with the recovery and results of my surgery!

I am the same way... I was out of surgery by 7pm and vomited off and on until the next night about 9 pm. I had anti-nausea meds and all. I think for me it was the pain meds and anethesia.
Once I refused the pain meds it stopped and I was fine. My x-ray was great of my sleeve. I was worried too. But the dr. said that throwing up won't hurt it.
Good luck!

I would not think it would affect your sleeve but if you still have concerns I would check with your surgeon. Hope this helps.

Well I do recall the surgeon commenting on how strong the staple line is.. but then I had the nurse tell me to hold a pillow to my stomach if I sneeze or cough so it made me wonder.
Thanks for the replies..

I struggle with nausea and vomiting from being put under, so when I went in for my sleeve, I told the surgeon and he hooked me up with some good drugs.  I came out of surgery with zero nausea and never vomited.  So please, the morning of surgery, talk to the surgeon and anesthesiologist and they will make it better.

ugh i hear ya the nausea was bad i had it a full 4 days and yes i was scared ****less about my new tummy and staples all i brought up was bubbles and foam and a bit of old dried blood the first day , Dr said it was fine but if blood was bright red and fresh to let them know.  I was given shots for this non stop and it didn't help at all until the very last night the Dr come to my hotel and gave me one final injection and i was still a bit queasy but never vomited since.  hope everything goes well for you

Ok I definately plan on asking the docs about something before hand then.
