birth control question for all the ladies... tmi?
so here's my rant: i haven't had to use birth control for the past 6 years due to infertility issues. after a year and a half of sticking myself in the stomach with hormones, inseminations, etc... i never thought i'd have to worry about birth control again. my infertility is listed as "unexplained", meaning there is no medical reason why i am not getting pregnant (hubby has super sperm). i know that women become more fertile after weight loss surgery and dont' want to risk getting pregnant too early, however i'm also concerned about blood clots so don't want to take the pill, etc...(i'm over 35) which leaves us... condoms. yuck. i forgot how ridiculously uncomfortable they are for both parties and wonder how i survived my teenage years with them.
so my question is, if you don't mind me prying into your personal lives, what is everyone here using?

apparently some docs say to double up on birth control methods however my gyn said condoms is fine for me. again, yuck. :P
see your date is approaching! good luck to you! i'm 8 weeks out and so proud of myself for having the courage to go through with it (even though i almost chickened out when they transferred me onto the table lol). truly the best thing i've ever done for myself. keep me posted as to how you make out!

I am on the progesterone pill. I am on it for other reasons than birth control. In the paperwork received its around 95% effective if taken daily. There aren't the blood clot and heart issues associated with regular bc pills. Here is some general info:

I use an IUD and swear by it. I've tried pills and the depo provera shot and they were awful. The pill caused ridiculous water retention and the Depo caused weight gain and severe mental problems like paranoia and anxiety. Not to mention it made me NEVER want sex. Would never do the shot again if you held a gun to my head. The only positive thing about Depo was that I NEVER had a period in the 2 years I was on it.
The IUD has caused me zero problems with retention, weight gain or loss of sex drive. I swear by it. I still have light periods, but we're talking minimal spotting for a few days and then it's over. I'll be using one until menopause as far as I'm concerned.

IUD Mirena with local slow release progesterone which is wonderful coz there are no periods!!!!!!!! I have had it for about 15 years now, put in after bb#2, then took it out, immediately had bb#3, put it back in and have it changed every five years. It is wonderful.
I use Nuvaring. It's a plastic ring you insert into your vagina right after your period week, then remove it three weeks later. It's easy and I love it.

Been on depo again for about two months now... And randomly I got a period even though I'm not supposed to have them now. Doctor says its cause my body is freaking out a little with all the weightloss and hormone changes. Today is day 17 of that period.
Before I swore by depo, right now I could scream. Be aware that any birth control changes could potentially cause other undesired effects.

My poor husband isn't gettin it lol I'm too scared don't trust condoms. Plus I don't want to take birth control pills either. Needless to say, I have a 4yr old and we are very happy with just one child and to be honest I don't think my nerves could handle another. So I'm having my husband neutered. I want to focus on me and give her my all. So until he is snipped which we are in the process of insurance approval :) and good to go there will be no hanky panky.
I wish you best in your journey and my close friend was put on birth control right after surgery b/c her surgeon didn't want her getting pregnant early out. So I'm sure you will be fine to be on it.
