MAJOR 6 month STALL. Help

I am currently 6 months out from my gastric sleeve surgery (6.14) and I have hit a major stall. It is true, you begin to play mind tricks on yourself that the rest of the weight is not going to come off. I have been at the same weight for three months now. I am worried.

Is there anyone out there that can offer some suggestions? I started running and eating less trying to combat the weight stall. Thus far no success.

And no for those of you who are wondering if inches are moving, they are not. I measure and weigh myself weekly.

Please help!

Well, 3 months is not a stall.....

You are at a balance point.....This will give you a good idea of what maintenance eating for yourself is going to be......

I'm just gonna guess.....generally speaking....just from averages I've seen on this board......

I'm gonna guess your over 1000 cals. a day.......and your carbs are well over 40 grams....

WL for me slowed down after 6 months.....I had to really tighten it up.

WL in the second six months can still be very good.....but it is more work.

Try 6-800 cals a day, less than 40 grams of carbs and get over 70 grams of protein.....

Try it for a good honest 7 days...... and it may reveal your answers.....

Frisco, I have conversations with you in my mind .

I just posted something like this poster.  I must make change but I've been super resistant.  Can you help me?  I am ready to do what I need to do to get the results that I want and need.

On a typical day what would I eat to suffice my nutritional needs if I were riding 6-800 calories?

Thanks,
Leila

I agree with Frisco's suggestions and I would only add that you need AT LEAST 64 oz of water a day.

My doctor suggested that you add one 8 oz glass of water for every 30 minutes of strenuous exercise.

Water is very important.

Good luck.

Hi!
You commented on my goal post, so you know I'm a stair stepper, too. I wish I could give you some words of wisdom, but I just don't have a specific reason why some of us lose this way. And just to let you know, we are definitely not the only ones.

I know it's discouraging, but keep doing all the right things. Don't under eat, your body will retain weight if it thinks it's in a starvation mode. You may even add some calories if you're not getting at least 800 a day.

Hang in there kid! I wish I had more advice, but I can tell you very truthfully you will lose again!!

I'm just going to ditto Frisco.  3 months is not a stall, it's maintenance.  And you should not be "stalled" from months 3-6.  Track your calories very closely to see where you're getting too many.  Religiously keep them from 600-800 and you will see the scale start to move.  Not to dismiss the pp, but I think it would be a really BAD idea to up your calories at this point.  Get back on the horse, you can do this!  Keep us posted!

I agree with every word written by Frisco.  That would be my advice as well.  Starvation mode is a myth for overweight people.  Your body does not go into starvation mode if you have fat to burn.  There are numerous studies backing this up.  Three months is not a stall, it is maintenance.  To jump start your loss do these things:

1) Eat between 600-800 calories
2) Get at least 70 g. of protein, more is better.
3) Keep carbs under 40, less is better.
4) Increase water consumption until you feel like you are a fish
5) Reduce sodium
6) Increase exercise
7) MOST IMPORTANT:  Tack every bite that goes into your mouth.  Write down calories, protein and carbs.  Become religious about it. Count all carbs, not just net carbs, count vitamins, do not subtract your exercise burn from your daily calories.  Do this for at least a week, I bet you will start losing again.

ah thanks Elina, something you mentioned was the last most important part that I did not know, not to subtract your exercise calories burned. I am still ok and still around 600 calories a day but some days I am like only 300 with exercise but I had my 3 meals by this time and figure I am full.

I find it strange though cause my dr friends tell me I am not losing because I am in starvation mode. Right now I am just stuck with TOM and retain like crazy, wondering if I should get rid of it lol like go on the needles or something where it won't come no more. It is like every 3 weeks I hit the retaining part and it gets frustrating and not a big loss the week after either.

Jackie, I can help you with the whole starvation mode thing right now.  Generally, when it comes to these types of things, I do a ton of research so that I can really understand the problem.  Many doctors and even nutritionist are simply parroting old, and I mean really, really old research.  Please go to MacMadam's blog at http://fattyfightsback.blogspot.com/2009/03/mtyhbusters-starvation-mode.html  and read all the studies for yourself. I think she covers this topic quite well.  You are not, repeat not in starvation mode.
