So I am very excited to be in the final stages of preparation for my VSG. I'm on the third day of my liquid diet and I am having pounding headaches, and I can't focus on anything, and I am SO hungry that I am shaky. The dieticians have been very encouraging and helpful, but I wonder from some of you who went through this, which day does it get better, and how did you get through the tough times? Did any of you experience any of these symptoms?

I didn't have any of the headaches. What does your liquid diet consist of?

I never had any issues and honestly after day 2 had no hunger problems either.  I have 4 kids to get off to school in the morning before i even go to work.  I would make it to work about 9ish and make me a protein shake blended up with some crushed ice.  The ones I used were 14 oz and had 34g of protein.  They are yummy!  I really would not feel hungry until about 5 o'clock in the afternoon which is when i would have my low carb high protein meal.  If i just felt like eating during the day with was sugar free jello or Popsicles.  Good luck on your journey.

For me it was about 4-5 days of shakes and headaches.  Then when I got used to the lower blood sugar it was fine.  If you are on diabeties drugs, keep an eye on your blood sugar and make sure it dosen't get too low (

Thanks. They took me off the Metformin for my liquid diet. I still feel like I have low blood sugar though.

I'm on day 9 of my preop liquid diet. I also had awful headaches. They went away after about five days. I still feel very hungry every day.  The only thing that helps is drinking protein shakes or broth.

The headaches are from caffeine or sugar withdrawl or both. Most people have them for 3 or 4 days and then you feel better. The hunger is just something I guess you have to deal with unfortunately. I was allowed 4 oz of lean protein once a day on my pre op diet. Is yours liquids only?

Pretty much protein shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free fugesicles, popsicles,

My "meals" are sugar free pudding, sugar free apple sauce, low fat cream soups and thinned cereals for the first week. The second is just Impact shakes and clear liquids.

headaches can also be a sign of dehydration. Make sure you are drinking at least 64oz a day.
