When does the pain after swallowing end?

I'm ten days post op now and the pain has pretty much stopped when I drink my water but with soup or oatmeal etc... I still get it..i'ts like the food hits the stomach and it immediately dislikes it.
It's a tightening mixed with pain.
I thoght it would be diminished by now, but guess not.

It's different for everyone, so there's not magic answer.  Your new tummy is still very swollen so now that it lets water flow in and out pretty easy, it will take time for thicker liquids to do the same.  And the same applies when you start on mushies, and then soft foods, etc.  This is why some people don't progress to the next stage/phase of eating even if they have been cleared to.

I was on full liquids for two weeks before mushies.  I was really excited to start mushies at 2 weeks, but still had enough swelling that I couldn't eat much mushies and ended up having to ease into it the first few days.  I mostly had liquids on the third week with just a few mushies in there because I had the tight discomfort that you describe.

It'll get better.  Hang in there.

Camie - I'm so sorry to hear you vomit almost every day.  Not fun.  I have never vomited with my sleeve.  So thankful for that!

I never had pain after swallowing unless I swallowed too much at once. But I was on full liquids until day 17 post-op and then purees for another two weeks after that, so I don't know if I would have if I had tried thicker foods sooner.

I think the pain is a sign that you either need smaller bites/sips and/or should go back to full liquids for a while.

I am on full liquids though... I'm having things like yogurt, cream of wheat, pea soup, mush soup without the chunks, pudding, and then protein smoothies. Maybe I'm going to fast with my eating. I will have to really focus and see if that makes a difference.

I was sleeved the day before you and I won't be allowed to have pudding, yogurt, et****il Day 15. I guess everyone's definition of "full liquids" is different... My surgeon's definition is that it must fit thru a stirrer-straw. So I am only drinking protein drinks (not smoothies that are thicker), powerade zero, soup broth, etc. Not sure why it hurts you, it doesn't hurt me at all at this point. But I am content to let my swelling subside and sleeve heal. There is the rest of my life to eat the other things.

Maybe just go back to the liquids and leave out puddings and yogurt for a day or so, even if you are allowed to eat them and see if that helps.

Best wishes to you!

I think what I will do is just stick with the fluids that aren't hurting right now.. like the clear broths and the runny cream of wheat  and get a protein shake in there and leave the pea soup, pudding, and oatmeal for a later date. I'm just happy to be able to get a little more protein in with the shakes.
