FREAKING OUT!
Yep, a LOT of us do this. Yikes. I cried and cried, I'm surprised my husband didn't drug me (or club me). Kept going over things and over things. Why can't I lose it on my own? Lost all this weight pre-op, I could lose it on my own, right? ("Have you ever been able to do that and keep it off, Dear?" he says gently. "No, but I could this time, I don't need to do this, right?")
Yeah, been there, done that.
Best. Decision. I. Ever. Made. (Except maybe marrying said dream hubby.)

My surgery is tomorrow. I had some of the same thoughts, especially during the last few days. However, I know that I am trying to improve my health. I think these thoughts are normal. I'm getting excited now. This may be the best Christmas gift I ever receive! Good luck! Hope it all goes well!
I always give the same answer when I see these down to the wire nervous posts.
The chances that you will have a major complication or death is very low - depending on your surgeon death is less than .5% and serious complication less than 5%. Without the surgery you are not likely to lose and keep off the weight (at least I wasn't and I believe this is true for the vast majority of us or we wouldn't have considered this step). With out the surgery (being obese) we are almost guarenteed to develop diabetese, hypertension, sleep apnea, joint problems and many other co-morbidities (if we don't already have them). These diseases are guarenteed to shorten our life - to KILL US!
I'm not a gambling women - but for me this was an easy bet. On June 1, 2011, I had the surgery. Recovery wasn't "fun" but it really wasn't that bad. I had one minor complication - an infection at the drain tube site - and that cleared up after some antibiotics. I have no problems eating and no food intolerances - though dense burgers aren't enjoyable to me (but I love a great steak!)
I really believe that this surgery is a lifesaver. I didn't have any comorbidities - other than slight hypertension (borderline really). I have lost 100 lbs in just under 6 months without too much effort. I LOVE my sleeve. You have to make the decision for yourself - but I really encourage you to go for it!

You have to realize that you will have times that you will wonder why you ever had the surgery. You will be frustrated and maybe even sorry you had it done. But you will get through it and be very, very glad you had the surgery. With Christmas coming and all the parties and food that will be around, you will feel bad about not being able to eat all that. Just keep in mind, you did all that for years and years before. Now is the time to be healthy, eat healthy and get gorgeous and slim. You won't regret it. You will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
