Wow I actually did it!
Hi all,
I suppose I have to change my name now as I have officially had the surgery. I went in last Wednesday afternoon and very anxious and scared but one xanex tablet prescribed by the doctor helped me. I was more scared that I was making the right decision. In pre op the nurse gasped when she found out I was having weight loss surgery. This is when I really got scared but Im doing this to keep the weight off for life. I know I can lose the 70 pounds but cant keep it off. And its so exhausting physically and mentally yo yo dieting. Every day is a new diet and I cant just have a normal day. I would be either on a diet or binge eating.
My surgery went very well and I guess Im lucky but recovery was really good. I came out of surger around 4.30pm and did not feel any discomfort until 4am the next morning but the drugs really help. The discomfort for me was nothing like a c section which I experienced last year with my first baby. Drinking the liquid in xray was the worst. be sure to have a small mint handy.
The tube has been yucky and annoying and uncomfortbale and very pleased to be getting it removed today and be able to have a shower and feel half human again. I have experienced some shoulder pain but it is all gass and walking around helped me with that.
Im surprised that Im still hungry. For some reason I thought all my hunger pains would suddenly dissappear but no Im hanging to take a bite out of a big juicy hamburger. It didnt help when my fiance made fettucini bolognase and fudge brownies my first night home and then ordered pizza and garlic bread on night two, followed by fresh buttery pancakes for breakfast! I must confess I sucked the life out of a seasoned crouton and then spat it out in fear I may accidentally digest it. Gotta laugh.
Drinking and keeping liquids down is no real issue for me however Im finding it difficult to drink my protein drinks. I hate the taste! I have tried in milk (every flavor) and fruit juice, diet juice but cant stand it. Any ideas as now day 3 with very littel protein? I can stomach small amount of coffee.
I cant wiat to start pureed foods. Anything other than soup and juice.

I've been waiting for your post! I knew you could do it! I was feeling really hungry, well, more "empty" than anything else. I ate, very slowly, a 3 ounce container of honey flavored Greek yogurt last night and it really helped. Maybe give that a try? It has 8 grams of protein too. Ths morning I made my 20 oz shake, that will take me an hour plus to drink! But I added Greek yogurt and light silk vanilla which added 12 more grams of protein. Maybe give that a try?
Rest well and congratulations!

Thanks Preopgirl for the information. I was wondering if the pain after surgery would be worse than a c-section. I read so many accounts of pain on the board. I am scheduled for next monday and i will make sure to take tic tacs with me.....lol....anyother advice u can give is really appreciated.
God Bless and I wish u a speedy recovery
Everything I read shows that people have different experiences. My pain was only "discomfort". Im very lucky. the tube is not great but only for a short amount of time. You just feel tired and yucky. Some mornings I feel nauseas but a quick pill and Im fine.
I would suggest a large round mint you can suck on for 30 minutes to get rid of the taste from the ex ray liquid.
My biggest dilemma was if I have made the right decision as I still want to enjoy food again. Only time will tell. You will feel tired and yucky but take one day at a time.
The hardest thing for me is not being able to pick up my 18 month old daughter. I miss our hugs and have her sit on my lap to have our cuddle time This is by far the hardest feeling, is missing picking her up, bathing her and getting her changed etc.
I also have to keep working from home for my business so this is very hard and takes discipline

Most likly it is the whey tast you dont like!!!I got mine at gnc no whey base but oat based bsc is the brand I really liked this one.I was on liquids first 2 weeks.Becareful stick to your dr. plans yougart is counted as pureed not liquids remember 3 rows of staples dont go off plan !!!!Hungur vs complications = misery. Have a good one it gets better I felt no restriction until I could eat dense protein and that should be a ways off for you ! Welcome to our world
Yes its the whey I dont like so will try the suggested oat based. My doctor said to have clear liquids and then full liquids and then pureed at one week after surgery. I hope this is right. and its okay to start pureed one week after surgery. He mentioned pudding and yoghurt (low fat) as part of full liquids.
I was not expecting to still be hungry. I feel hungry often. Is this normal?
Thanks
