I've never been able to get in alot of fluids after surgery and went back my second week to the ER for iv fluids and severe dehydration.

even now at 10 weeks out i can only get in about 40-48 ounces per day.  i'm going to talk to my surgeon tomorrow however was wondering if anyone else isn't getting in the required 64?

I'm getting 72-80 oz (9-10 glasses) a day. I start in the morning the minute I wake up and go until bedtime.

I've also found that I can drink a little bit more now, thank goodness..

I hope it gets better for you.

I'm suffering as well.  I'm wondering what point I need to be at before I go to the ER.  My skin on my hand is slow to snap back.  I pee twice a day, once in the morning and once before I go to bed.  My urine has always been a super bright concentrated yellow since I got home from the hospital.  I don't know if it's all in my head but I feel like I'm having stabbing pains where my kidneys are.

I am 10 weeks out as well, and no I am not getting in my full amount of fluids. Partly, I get so busy and forget. I have to force myself to drink, it's a struggle, but I keep working on it. When I was recovering it seemed easier because I was just focusing on me. Now there is a lot going on, life and work and I forget. I think I am going to start using a timer to help remind me to drink. Good luck hun.

I'm in the same boat.  I just cant find anything that tastes good enough for me to drink that much of.  I still cant have caffine or carbination.  Water is yuck and I hate the kooliad-ish drinks.  I can have decaf coffee.  That is where I am getting 16 oz's in,  I also try to get in at leat a bottle of water.  I probably am getting 40 oz's also.  Its a good think that its not summer or I would be getting dehydrated, I spend alot of time out in the heat.

I agree, it is certainly hard to get the fluids in, especially when you don't like the taste of things sweet... but I have been forcing myself to drink three 16-oz. cups of fluid, plus my two 11-oz. 30gr protein drinks each day. I found that Propel Zero flavored water diluted is what I can drink. I simply add 8 oz. to 8 oz. of filtered water and sip on that all day.

It is important!! @ Jessica, I am very worried that you could be dehydrated... your pee should not be bright yellow and going only twice a day is cause for concern. Please call your doctor!!

My surgeon's office was very clear with us (in the class) - for the first two weeks they want us to only concentrate on fluids - in fact for the first week only 1 protein drink was allowed, b/c people get consumed with trying to get protein in and forget to just get fluids. This past week I added the 2nd protein drink. At this stage I am still on full liquids so all I have to concentrate on right now is fluid.

For those 10 weeks out, wow. I can't speak for you, except to say i have heard for the rest of our lives we need to make sure we are drinking a min. of 64 oz. a day... it is a new habit that we just HAVE to do... regardless whether we have had WLS or not, we ALL need that much fluid in every single day. In the past it was easier b/c I could guzzle a 2-litre of Diet Coke a day of I wanted, but this new lifestyle is going to require some real effort.

Best wishes to all of you - now drink!! LOL
