I read up some on the DS today cuz I knew so little about it, and it does sound like it's the best way to go if you have a VSG and need something extra. I guess it becomes a personal choice though just like every WLS out there you have to decide what's bst for you. I sure don't hear as much about the DS as I do about the RNY though.

There were not any surgeons in my area that did the DS. I just found one in Chicago, so if I ever decide to do a revision (I am hoping that I won't) I will talk to the surgeons in Chicago (over 5 hours away). I am starting to do more research on the DS but I am hoping to get the results I want with the sleeve.

i hope you do too!  i am also getting a sleeve.  i have to lose 100lbs.  i read up on all the surgeries and between the rny and the ds, the ds looks like a good revision to have if the sleeve doesn't do it all for you, and it seems to have a good long term weight loss result.  good luck on your research.

My surgeon said he does not ever recommend counting on a second surgery and its not his favorite thing to do but that he has done RNY post sleeve a couple of times.

I don't understand why a VSG to RNY revision would be preferable, other than the fact that few surgeons preform the DS... so naturally they don't recommend it.   Few surgeons recommend what they can't do.

Nutshell:

Lost 140 lbs with VSG. (Hooray!!)

got pregnant  (yeaaaa!)

got cancer (boooo!)

regained 40 lbs.   (grrrr!)

In summary: Alive & Grateful.

I don't think Blondie's story is really one of her needing the DS more then the VSG, since basically the VSG was never done on her in the first place. It was a completely botched surgery by a crappy surgeon. I think this post should focus more on the importance of picking a good surgeon who has experience with the surgery you are going for. Maybe if she had had the VSG done properly she would have lost weight, you just never know.

I agree with this...I'm very happy she is experiencing success now, but there is no way to know how successful Blondie would have been if she had a proper sleeve in the first place.

I also wonder, mechanics wise, if she has an almost normal size stomach, down the road will the DS absorption be enough for her?  I don't know, but I'd have to think there is a reason that DS'ers get a sleeve in the first place, rather than only having the intestinal re-routing.

Regardless, I'm glad she's happy.
