Warning: Question about snot and vomit
I am almost 4 months out from my VSG, and I am in love, seriously!
Unfortunately, this past weekend I started coming down with a cold and it has taken me several days to fight through it. I've found Tylenol multi-symptom cold night time formula to work wonders, and I thought I was doing great...until last night.
We were all out for a family dinner to celebrate my brother's girlfriend's birthday. At the dinner table I start coughing and suddenly I am throwing up into my napkin, but it wasn't the dinner I had just finished, it was all snot. Then I was fine, embarrassed, but fine.
First, I am not sure why just the snot came up from one big violent push from my stomach.
Second, my poor sleeve has not stopped spasming with every sip of water or coffee or tea that I've tried to take since then. I am scare to eat anything to make it upset, but the thought of anything being eaten or protein being drinken makes me leery. I have to work today and tomorrow, so the risk of throwing up again is not worth taking.
I take Allegra twice a day for allergies, the Tylenol has a mucous thinner and decongestant...and I sleep with a humidifier nightly.
Any suggestions? Am I the only one with this issue?

You're not alone. I had the issue with my band, and I have it with my sleeve as well. Even at over 2.5 years out, if I have major sinus drainage/allergies, my sleeve seems filled up with snot thus making it very difficult to eat solid, dense protein foods. Warm fluids, hot tea, coffee etc etc are the only things that give me any resolution. Mucinex D and Sudafed seem to work wonders for me in "drying" up all the drainage. I also use a netti pot (even though I feel like I'm going to drown myself at first), to flush my sinuses and get the gunk out of my system.
The few times I've come down with a head cold, I stick with soups, chili, and yogurts so my stomach doesn't have to work as hard.

Yep, it's one of those lovely things that no one really talks about. But, it happens to me.
I had a funky stomach pre-op even before the band so I wasn't too surprised with this side-effect.
I swear by the netti pot, but usually I catch it too late, and all the drainage has made it's way down to my stomach.

Thanks. I have been on the Allegra twice a day since forever b/c my sinuses are so sensitive to all allergens. My PCP suggested Mucinex, which I usualy take, but I have been hesitant b/c it makes me cough up the crud, and I guess with much less of a stomach to hold the crud, it would make sense to get it out sooner than later.
Soup for breakfast - gotta do what I gotta do, right?
Thanks again. Will be taking it easy for sure!

I've definitely had that issue before. My wee baby tummy fills with any kind of drainage making it damn near impossible to eat unless I push some of the nastiness up (it's gross, REALLY gross). So I make allergy meds a part of my daily routine and if I feel like I'm starting to come down with anything I start with decongestants and sinus rinses (think squeeze bottle as opposed to neti pot). It still happens but if you have a good plan to avoid it the best you can you'll be better off. Good luck and feel better!
