okay, I was wondering what kind of diet plan is the best decision to follow? I was cleared for all foods as of today and I want to do the best thing to help me to lose all my weight, so I was wondering what kind of diet you guys have chosen to help you?? I am thinking it is the high protein/low carb?? But then I was also thinking of weigh****chers, but then I will not have the protein I need? Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?? Thanks!

Once I'm cleared for food (had surgery last week) I will be going with weigh****chers!  I've had so much success in the past with their program and as far as getting in the protein, I'm plainning to have at least 2 protein shakes a day so hoping that this will help!  Planning to eat lots of tuna, turkey sausage, egg whites, 2% cheese, etc...so not worried about the protein intake.

Hope you have success whichever direction you go.

I agree! I loved weigh****hchers! I loved the food...going to subway ands getting the turkey sub on wheat with no cheese and honey mustard mmmmmmmm.......and actually, since we can not eat a whole lot, it may actually work out being able to eat the protein :) not a bad choice!

There's really a million things you can do - if you're already up to the stage where you're committed to getting in your protein and minimizing carbs, you already 80% there!

If you do weigh****chers, do it such that you keep your protein up.  You'll have to make the choice for you, but

1) Record what you eat (so you don't drift)
2) Watch your daily goals (keep that protein up, keep carbs down)

OK...... Now I'm a whole lotta confused ???????????

Didn't you get an eating plan from your surgeon???

When did Weigh****chers become an option????

Is this something new???

I've heard of people trying WW in maintenance.....but never during WL....

Sorry if this is some old news I'm not up on.....

I have to agree with Frisco, it seems odd that no plan was given to you. Are you just using WW to track the intake?
.im 3 weeks out and I need 80 grams of protein, 64 fluid ounces and stay under 800 calories with an exercise program. Did you receive anything like that from your surgeon or NUT?

I had a pre-op nutrition class and got a huge binder full of food plans for all the various stages of post-op (4 weeks out, 8 weeks out, 16 weeks out, etc.) with lengthy lists of allowed foods and recommended quantities. I've met with the nutritionist twice since my surgery (I'm 4 1/2 months out) and we also discuss my calorie and protein targets during those visits.

Following a "traditional" diet plan is not likely to be helpful to you . . . as someone who's done Weigh****chers a zillion times in the past, I couldn't even dream of eating enough to hit my recommended "points target" if I tried!!

A good rule of thumb (in my opinion and in the opinion of my nutritionist) is 600-800 calories daily, at least 75 grams of protein, and at least 64 oz of non-caffeinated, sugar-free fluids. I don't have a recommended carb or fat limit but I try to keep my fat intake fairly low and watch my carbs as well.

I know other people try to hit 100+ grams of protein and I've seen others post that they are happy to get above 60 . . . some people are militantly low-carb while others don't seem to have problems with higher carb intake.

iI did have paperwork for my stages and meal plans ans what not--when to introduce what vitamins etc...i guess I was trying to get some insight from some of the vets as to how/what they did to be so successful after being cleared for all food.

Rebecca and Megan above have listed pretty much the plan I followed to lose 190lbs. in 13 months.

The only thing I can add is that my program listed keeping carbs at or below 40 grams.

I have maintained my goal weight for over a year now still following about 80% of the same basic WL plan. I have just added carbs up to or below 80 grams and calories at around 1200 with no walking and up to about 1400 with walking.

The single biggest tip I can give you..... is to always under eat your sleeves capacity. Eat fixed/measured amounts of food that is under your capacity. Never try to find full....that's how we got fat. It will also help you preserve your restriction for long term when your really going to need it.

With all respect for the Weigh****chers plan and for your warm thoughts toward it, ****rtainly spent hundreds of dollars on it over the years trying it and losing and regaining, etc.) I cannot imagine why bother to go thru the surgery to have 85% of your stomach removed and then turn back to that plan? Perhaps you are thinking you enjoyed the comraderie of the meetings? Because if that's the case, please find a support group for WLS people, which I plan to do, b/c we cannot take in all the calories WW would put us on at this stage. I agree with Rebecca, Megan and Frisco as the basics of our weight loss program now, and the beauty of it is you don't have to spend any more money on that program!! If I could have lost all my weight with WW, I would never have had my VSG.

I certainly wish you all the best on your journey, whichever way you choose to go!!
