Tightness in chest - from bread?

Hi Ruggie,

How you feeling now?  Is it better?  I hope it was the bread!!  I had a similar experience at 8 months out, but it was not with anything I ate.  The pain in my chest was like you describe...no other cardiac symptoms either...but, taking a deep breath was not a good feeling at all.  I also had increased pain if I tried to lie down or lean forward.  I had pericarditis and they don't know why.  I still have the occasional episode and they still do not know why it is happening.  I hope you are better and it was the bread.  But, if you are still having some symptoms now, call your PCP and get evaluated.  I am not saying anything against Dr C or his instructions as he does know his stuff, just that if you are still having issues at this time, it may be something else.

Keep us posted!!

 Hi SuperRN -

This is definitely not related to the small piece of bread I ate. The feeling has stayed with me all night and I still have it now - and I'm also experiencing pain when I lie down, or lean forward, or when I stand up.

How is pericarditis diagnosed?

It is diagnosed by symptoms for the most part but there are some tests they can do.  It is quite painful.  An EKG can sometimes show it, but mine never did.  There is a blood test they can do but it is not specifically for pericarditis and can be elevated if you have inflammation any where.  The most conclusive is and ECHO (echocardiogram...and ultrasound of the heart).

All of my tests were negative every time I have had these episodes, but my symptoms are classic and I always respond very quickly to the treatment.  Therefore, they have given me this diagnosis.

I hope it turns out to be nothing serious, but you need to get it checked out for sure and don't wait too long to do it.

I'm ok.  Still don't know what's going on, or the real source of the chest pain, but EKG came back "perfect".  Going to work it out this week with more visits.  (Nothing but the ER available tonight).

Hi
Can't say that I have had this sensation. I eat almost no bread and when I do its this low carb high fiber mini bread rounds.

Glad it turned out not to be something serious and that our mutual surgeon helped you. Everybody seems to have a few foods that trigger some kind of discomfort or reaction - not neccessarily the reaction you describe - but some sort of issue. Often it goes away after a time. My newly sleeved hubby is not doing well with eggs which is too bad because he loves them and was planning on making them a big part of his weight loss diet. I suspect it will resolve too.

Anyway, glad you are ok. you write great posts!

Diane
