I was self pay also and I would do it again in a minute. I feel so much better and love being able to cross my legs, shop in the misses dept, fit in seats normally and everything the other post have said. I truly wish I would have done this many years ago as I have yoyo dieted for 35 years or more! You must go in to this with the attitude that you have to change your eating habits also. Protein...protein...protein first and you won't have to worry about the other stuff because you won't have room in your tummy for it. The better you feel the easier I think it gets because you can see and feel the results of your good decisions.
I wish you the best in making the right decision for you!

100% yes.

My only regret is that this surgery was not around 20 or 30 years ago. I had surgery at 54 years old. I had/have severe arthritis, and some other medical issues.

I was not expecting my weight loss surgery to "cure" all my ills, just to be the TOOL to finally help me lose the weight that I have carried all my adult life....(from 25 to 54).....and it has done exactly that!!!!

Of course, I still have arthritis, but NOW, after losing 120 pounds, my lower weight will allow me to have knee replacements ! NOW, I can exercise some, NOW, I can go anywhere, do things I dreamed of doing and thought that it was impossible. I have been horseback riding, I took a 4 hour trail ride muleback (where the weight limit was 225 and they weigh you fully dressed with a helmet on !) I haven't been able to do that in 20 years !!!!

Regrets ? None.

Saggy baggie skin ? Yep. Funds to be able to do plastics ? NOPE. Regrets ? Nope. I wear my saggy baggy skin as a badge of honor and a reminder where I came from. Sure, I'd like to have the tummy skin and hanging stuff removed. Insurances won't cover it. Is THAT in my future ? Maybe one day.....but even if it's not, NO REGRETS for an instant.

I've gone from size womans plus 28 to a ladies 14 petite. In a blouse/ top from a womans plus 4X to a ladies petite XL or a ladies L.

I can buy camping clothing in sports shops. Ladies, not Mens !!! I can fit through turnstyles forwards, no turnstyle turn for me anymore !

Going to the doctor does not cause my blood pressure to rise, because I'm terrified to get on the scale and hear "the lecture". I know what the scale will be. I know what my clothes weigh. I know my body. I know me better than I have in more than 25 years.

NOT ONE REGRET.

The only thing I would "warn" anyone is that this IS MAJOR SURGERY. You are having most of a major organ removed. YOU WILL FEEL CRAPPY after surgery. IT does hurt post op. You will have to follow doctor's orders for a few months. You should NOT promote your diet faster than the doctor tells you to. The first few weeks are difficult, you are in recovery. Do not expect to "bounce back" in days. But once that month of recovery is done....you are going to feel GREAT.

Most of the time I say yes I would do it again, but there have been times of regret. I've been through 2 WLS, so I definitely regret having the band and not having the sleeve done first. I might feel differently now.

Any WLS plays head games and no matter how prepared we think we are, its hard losing our emotional crutch, food. And yes, I do know a few people who were sleeved 5 years ago who did gain a lot of weight back. Maybe because they had larger bougies, more likely they never really followed a strict food plan and let their bad eating habits take over. Yes, once you hit goal and reach maintenance you can allow yourself to loosen up a little but you still have follow the rules and a healthy eating plan. If you go back to eating crap the weight will come back on.

I am a big believer in therapy before surgery to help deal with the food issues. I am almost 4 years out and below goal, and I still struggle with head hunger and emotional eating. And while I love how I look, and honestly don't care too much about the loose skin, I still want to turn to binging when my emotions get the best of me. Therapy helps, as does keeping mmy sugar and white Carbs to a minimum.

My only regret was I hadn't heard about VSG sooner and gotten it done before... would I take the pain and the crying jags and all that came with it right after the surgery - the answer is 100% yes.  Even with all the emotional and the physical pain I feel better than I have in years.

The cons for me were mostly emotional since I haven't had any food issues so to speak not real ones.

The pros are to numerous to mention besides the fact that my blood pressure is perfect, my sleep apnea gone and I can run and exercise and do all the things I have missed over the years.

Good luck to you.
