i went to my local hospital outpatient building to have my ct scan done today (with iv contrast only).  after 4 nurses and 8 needle sticks, they offered to have the picc team come and put a port in.  wtf?

i told them no thank you, called my surgeon and he told me to schedule it at his hospital in philly.  that's what i get for going to my local.  incompetent people.  i am a hard stick but never has anyone not been able to get my vein.  i'm so mad right now.  have to take another half day off work and use my personal time now.

just had to get it out.  thanks!

Good thing you're not having your surgery there.

I feel your pain... I am a tough stick.  I thought it would get better once I lost weight, but not so much.  I am told my veins are very deep and they roll.  Ugh.

Hopefully the bigger place will have someone more skilled and they'll get it on the first shot! Good luck!

yep, good thing i didn't have surgery there!  although 5 of my friends locally have and did great, i just felt more comfortable going to a city where they have more experience.

my veins are tiny and deep and each nurse that came in said "your veins are horrible".  really?  i warned you of that when i came in.  i'm more frustrated because they werent' able to get it.  i told them where to go and they only tried there 1 time and wasted 7 sticks on places i knew they wouldn't get it.  i'll get over it, just needed to vent.  thanks for listening!

when i went for my endoscopy they wanted to use my foot after trying twice, i said absolutely not.  if they go where i tell them to 99% they can get it.  lo and behold, they tried where i suggested and got it.  i've had my wrist tried before and they can't get it there and it hurt like hell so i don't let anyone try there anymore.  usually my inside of my right forearm is a good spot or the top of my left hand.  dr. said when i lost weight it would be easier but it hasn't been so guess i'm doomed with bad veins forever lol.

I'm a hard stick too.

I always tell the nurse, "Look, unless your nickname is Bull's Eye, do yourself and me a favor and go find the person who can hit a vein every time."

I don't give a rat's fart if they get offended. I'm the one that has to deal with the pain of them digging a needle around in my arms.

Yeah!  Say that!  The nurses will take extra special good care of you after you **** them off first thing with a nasty remark.  Hope you don't need any pain meds before, during or after your procedure.

Omg when I was having surgery my IV was "infiltrated"... when the liquid stops going into your vein and your damn hand and arm blows up like a damn balloon... so they had to try to do a new IV for me. No joke, 10 people tried on me. It was the most annoying thing. Eventually they had to get some little hand held machine that shines a light and shows them where the veins are and they had to call in an ICU nurse to do it. What made it even more annoying was that a bunch of them kept coming in to see my giant blown up hand/arm. Apparently it was entertaining...
