Food Television-Thoughts
My other random thoughts are on Food TV and people showing America how to cook. A high percentage of Food TV hosts are Over Weight and they are teaching us how to cook to gain weight. Yes there are a few shows on how to eat cleaner...but those are on late late at night.
Over Weights:
- Paula Dean
- Ina Garten
- Mario Batali
- Guy Fieri
- Adam Richman
- Emeril
- Rachael Ray
- Aarti Sequeira
- Morimoto
- Jose Garces
- Anne Burrell
- Alex Guarnaschelli
- Andrew Zimmer
- Sunny Anderson
- Gina Neely
- Nigella Lawson
- Duff Goldman
- Roger Mooking
There is a rumor that Paula Dean has recently been diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes and has inked a multi-million dollar endorsement deal with a drug company that sells a Diabetes drug!
It caught up to her..... The woman uses more butter and sugar than the law allows. Her show is on right now and was baffled how people keep 1 or 2 cubes of butter in there fridge......she keeps track of the butter in her fridge by the pound.
Ina Garten the Barefoot Contessa cooks some amazing food....but most is very rich and she always does a fully loaded dessert. I felt really sorry for her on one show when they did a beach picnic scene......you know.....wine, picnic basket.... sitting on a beach mat..... she was the only obese person among about 6 other normies.... everyone else was sitting comfortably with plates on their laps......Well, as "We" all know....when your obese.....that sit down and look comfortable doesn't work.... can't sit Indian style....can't just sit and sit up straight cause to much tummy....
Adam Richman has gained so much weight....he always wears a jacket to hide the fat rolls (I been there...done that)
Giada must be a spitter.... It's common on food/eating sets to have spit buckets because some scenes need to be shot a few times ....so the talent can't be eating so much.
I'm not criticizing parse.....I just think it's part of the high average weight of "us" Americans.
It's not a Network problem...the Networks only gives us what we want to see.
Just another random thought.... Don't get me wrong...I love most the shows... I always have to figure out if it could be made cleaner.....Less carbs, sugar, bacon fat, duck fat, lardo.....

Some have lost weight, like Gina Neely and Sunny Anderson. So, at least they are trying to be healthier. Rachel Ray has fluctuated. She is so short that every pound on her is very noticeable.
What is up with you throwing Gina under the bus, but not her husband Pat?
Rachel has been offering more lighter options, but it is not the focus of her show. The couple of chefs that really promote it don't seem to have regular shows on Food Network channels (Rocco Dispirito, Jaimie Oliver). I'm looking forward to seeing Bobby Dean's new show which is supposed to focus on lighter cooking.
I didn't think Pat Neely was that over....guy is pretty tall and must wear it well.....
I too am interested in Bobby Deans show and I wonder if it is a result of Paula Deans Diabetes Rumor???
And yes.... the Jamie Oliver movement is pretty cool.... I did think it odd the guy from England was trying to fix American lunch programs.....

In addition, we seem to be glorifying enormous portions. Watching Adam Richman eat 8 pounds of food is absurd and an abuse of his body. On DDD, we watch Guy eat ridiculous foods that should only be eaten as a very occasional thing, not a daily, or even weekly splurge. It's promoting the idea that we should have a splurge whenever we want it. We're told over and over that eating healthy food is a drag, we should treat ourselves with the best. What I wish they would say, is that healthy food can be amazing. It can also be easy to make. The key is to understand your ingredients and how they can work for you. These shows are by and large not teaching that. It's all about theatrics and the special occasion meal.
I'm curious to see how Paula Deen, the Queen of the splurge, handles the diabetes angle. She, and many others on your list have probably been diabetic for year. Mario Batali has multiple heart issues and has not done anything, that I can tell, to solve the issue.
Then there is Alton Brown. I love this man. His now defunct show was a wonderful teaching tool. His recent weight loss and focus on real foods is fabulous. I do get irritated by the Welch's grape juice commercials, but we'll tackle that one another day.
Prevsgcrys, I have caught the new Paula/Bobby Dean show, with Bobby making Paula's favorite recipes "healthier." I caught one episode and that was it, can't go back. Whatever they made, he took the fat grams down from something like 48 to 26g/serving - I think it was a half of a sandwich. Yeah, there are fewer grams of fat, but...I dunno, I guess I just expected a bigger drop. Very very very misleading, at least for me, but again, my perceptions are off right now, I think. I'm barely hitting 20g/fat per *day*, so I'll probably reevaluate once I get closer to maintenance...but still....26g/fat per half sandwich seems like an awful lot. There *are* some good tips - using Greek Yogurt in place of sour cream, etc - but it was disappointing.
There was a commercial for a show called (I think) "Fat Chef" - addressing the weight issue among chefs, but on the commercial, they weren't any chefs that I had heard of. I'm hoping to catch that to see if they actually add some useful tips for cutting fat and calories.
//edit - Oh.... has anyone seen "The Big Waste" on Food Network? I only caught a commercial for it, and they were showing how much food we waste. What caught my eye was that most of what they were showing that had been wasted was fruits and veggies....spoke volumes, IMHO.
Having said that, I enjoy watching a good number of them myself, but yeah... I'm always looking for a way to cut out some of the fats and modify the portions. I don't cook, hubby does but I love watching some of the shows. I flat out refuse to watch Dean though. *shudder*
