Flip Side of Head Hunger....Mental Full ???

I think know what you mean.  Although  its a bit different for me.  Rather than wanting a small portion, I just pretty much have no desire to eat anymore.  It is almost a chore to me, and I'll take a few bites and just want to be done.  I'm not full by any means, and I do eat enough of a portion to reach my protein goal because I know I need to take care of myself.  But my brain definitely, somehow, lost the drive to eat.  I think it "helps" that nothing tastes that great to me (if you can call that help).

Obviously I'm not that far out from surgery, and it could change.  The only time I didn't feel like this was right after the holiday when I let some carbs back in.  Once I got those out of my system, I was back to not "needing" food - in quotes because of course my body needs food, but my head doesn't seem to think so.

I wouldn't call it disordered eating or thinking because I am mindful to take in what I need, even when I don't feel like it.  I'd much rather have to focus on this than focus on trying to limit what I eat though (ie, my pre-surgery way of life)!

Hi Frisco
Sounds like what you call mental limits is a genuine change of habits. Its one of the things I am convinced must happen during the weight loss phase so that when the goal is met and we are physically able to eat a little more and a wider variety of things, we don't go wild and eat too much sugar and carbs and bigger quantities than necessary.

Its the reason I tell people not to eat that single hershy kiss at two months even though one probably could. We all used to have distorted concepts of what was an appropriate meal size (like a whole pizza or 12 oz steak plus all the sides). Getting those mental limits in place is every bit as important as getting the weight off.

Many years ago in one of my many failed weight loss efforts I went to a counselor for therapy on weight loss. I told her I always ate about 15 to 20% more than I needed and she said to mentally or physically divide my meal into four or five parts and to ask myself if I had enough after each part. It actually worked for awhile but I eventually failed for the same reasons every other diet fails. Still its a good concept and its possible to use it with the help of our sleeve and reduced appetitie. Sounds kind of like what you are doing.

Anyway, good thoughts. I bet most of the successful maintainers have embraced this concept in some way.     Diane
