Marital relationships after surgery

I just wanted to take a moment to address the relationship with the DH post surgery.  I have read on here that it can be a strain for some, but it can also be a wonderful chapter to the marriage as well. He was really scared for me.  He wanted to support me in the decision, but once the day came near his nervousness got the better of him.  No problem, I was fully motivated and not freaked out about the surgery.  Post surgery it has been amazing.  He put himself on a diet and exercise regime to help support me and obviously help  him.  Our whole family eats better now (he is the cook of the family).  We go on long walks all the time again like when we were first married.  We inspire one another and it has just been a wonderful part of the sleeve experience overall.  He has lost 28 pounds since my 1 month surgiversary, and I lost 21.  He teaches 2nd grade, but a kindergarten teacher at heart.  We joke about how together we lost a kindergartner and now time to work on losing a fifth grader between us!

I'm so happy everything is going well for you..and for your husband! Congrat's!  I thought for sure there was no way my marriage would suffer after surgery, but it has.  I am sure there are many, like yours..that are enriched.  My husband has always been extremely supportive, before and after surgery..but I just feel like such a different person now, than what i was.  My wants and needs are now important to me, where I used to just dismiss them.

So happy for you and your family though!! Keep up the great work!!

That is wonderful to hear.
I too am happily married. Both my husband and I were sleeved on the same day, Aug 1st.

I was very worried for him, as I am the worry wart in this marriage.

But since the surgery, we have entered another wonderful dimension in our life.

Very rewarding.

That's fantastic!  We haven't gotten there yet, as I'm only a week post op, but I can't wait!  Hubby has lost 10 pounds this week with me, just by eating better, and not going out to eat.  He's scheduled for the sleeve in March.  This summer is going to be fun!

I am so happy for you!  It is wonderful to have the support of your husband......and that he is on board with becoming healthy and for the whole family is just awesome.
Best wishes to you and your family! :)

That is such wonderful news! I am so very fortunate to have a wonderful & supportive husband as well. Since surgery we have lost weight together, changed our entire eating habits and are now doing things we would never have done before. It hasn't been an easy road to get here by any means but definately a worthwhile journey together. God has blessed us with 2 awesome children and continues to bless us every day in so many ways.

Keep us posted on your continued success!

My Hubby of Awesomeness and I have grown closer since the surgery. He's always been supportive and trusts my decisions to be well thought out and researched. My feelings about myself are changing, but my feelings for him aren't. I can't imagine having to go out in the world and find someone else who appreciates me and loves me more than him.

Once, right before we were married, I freaked out and said "what if you find someone else down the road?" (My parents were divorced when I was 6 and again when I was 8).

He said, "The grass isn't any greener on the other side. It's just different grass."

That's how I feel too. Another person besides my husband will have their own set of issues and flaws (we all have them) - they'd just be different grass.

You get out what you put in. JMO.

My Husband has been my rock and knight in shining armor through this whole journey. Our marriage just keeps getting better! It's nice to hear others are having the same outcome, too.

If a better marriage is not happening for you, please don't make any hasty decisions, and seek counseling!

I have the most awesome and supportive hubby anyone could ask for.  Going into my surgery, he was concerned about me, but supported me fully.  Now that I'm down 84 pounds, we love each other just as much if not more than before.  He's been my rock through all of this.  And he's eating better and working out like crazy now too because he wants to get healthy with me.  It is my journey, but he's chosen to join me on it and that makes all the difference in the world.

I love everyones posts as I can really feel the honesty and sincerity from them

I understand the poster who said the husband is supportive, but now she is trying to pay more attention to her wants and needs.  Always tough to balance this, especially for us nurturing big hearted women!

Funny how a simple post can enrich somebody.  Before the sleeve I posted that I ate at 5 Guys during the 2 week diet period.  Somebody calls me out on it, but also points out the enalbling that was occurring.  The talk that resulted from that post between the hubby and I has been amazingly helpful through this whole process and absolutely helped us to redefine that part of our relationship together.  Communication and figuring out how to do it with the spouse in a way that each other can hear and respect the message is so important!
