vegetarian vsgers?
Hi,
I have a vegetarian frind who is interested in weight loss surgery but worried about all the protein she needs to get.
She does eat eggs and milk productrs but doesn't think subsisting on cheese omelettes the rest of her life is manageable.
Are there successful vegetarian vsgers out there with any thoughts on this? Can it be done on beans and such successfully?
Any help I can pass on to her would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Lynn

If she's a vegitarian she should already be aware of all her protein options such as the soy products, tofu and Morning Glory (and other) brand vegitarian "meat" that has a lot of protein in it. Also, she can supplement with the protein shakes just fine while she eats her animal friendly food.
I'm not a vegetarian, though I was for a period of time a few years back. I still try to eat some meatless meals, though. There are lots of options. I keep chili in the house as a quick meal, though mine has meat. Veggie chili with some low fat or fat free cheese has a good amount of protein. Eggs and cheese obviously are an option, as you said. Greek yogurt with fruit, a few nuts and a TBLS of all bran nuggets makes a yummy breakfast, which I eat several mornings a week. There is a brand of meatless chicken that's yummy, made from egg whites that I've gotten in the past in the frozen section of health stores - I can't remember the brand, but I think it starts with a Q and the packaging is orange. Tofu obviously has protein. Veggie burgers with cheese are another option. I would think that some protein powder mixed into tofu, meatless ground burger, etc., would make a variety of things such as "meatballs", "meatloaf", etc, while boosting the protein. Just a few ideas. Hope they help. Tell your freiend good luck with her journey!
Thanks for some of the info.
Of course she knows she doesn't usually have any problems with getting enough protein but so much of the wls info is based around a meat diet that she was beginning to get a little confused. She will be delighted I think to hear some of these comments and to know that she too can have success with a tofu, bean based diet following surgery.
This site is such a great place for both information and inspiration.
