Hi All, I'm kind of new here, but have been lurking since late December. DH had VGS on 12/9 and is doing great. I went with him to the seminar required by Kaiser and decided I wanted to do this too. By BMI was to low (38) according to Kaiser's standards, and HBP wasn't enough to qualify me. But, after chatting with DH's surgeon, he encouraged me to fight for it. So I asked for a sleep test and sure enough, sleep apnea. Normaly this would not be good news, but in this case it is a ticket to a new life. I asked my PCP again, and I found out today that he is sending in the referal to Kaiser's options program (pre-surgery requirement). I can now begin my WL journey. I am so glad I found this forum while searching for unflavored protein powder for DH. I only wish I had found this forum before his surgery, we would have been even more prepared than we were. Classes can only do so much. We have both learned so much from you all, I'm looking forward to joining you all on the bench.

Hi ! I had my vsg through Kaiser, although because of where I live, and the lack of Kaiser surgeons, I was able to PICK my own outside surgeon from a list of those contracting with Kaiser ! I was able to lose 34 pounds in the pre op classes and in the time before surgery, and have lost 88 pounds in the year post op.

I think the classes depend on who is teaching, and leading the classes. I found some to be really dumb, and others to be informative ! You just have to go through their process ! I hope you have a great experience, and if I can be of help, pm me !
