6 months post op with Pics!
Ahhhhh….Where to start? Flash back to 1996, 36 years old, single mom of some teens, pretty good job, pretty good place to live, kids are fine…time to go out on the town with my girls….below is exactly what I wore out but add a funky hat and a leather jacket. Size 10
I used to hang this pair of jeans on the wall next to my treadmill as an incentive to get back to where I wanted to be. I was wearing these jeans when I met my husband.
But on an off note, I am the middle child of 6 kids, 5 girls. Every single one of my sisters is a mini person. You know, petite. Growing up I was the “fat" girl. I weighed 230 pounds when I was 9 months pregnant with both my kids. I managed to starve myself back to a reasonable size but never kept it off. Back in 1996 I just didn’t have the extra money or time to eat a lot. LOL I put them on today, they fit! And I called my husband to take the picture for me. Then I told him I had to change into more appropriate jeans to go to Walmart. He says “Why? You look great!" So just for him….I wore them to WalMart.
So if any of you see one of those WalMart emails, you know , the ones with the pics of the “weird and wild" WalMart folks, and I happen to be in it…..Delete! And I’ll owe you one.
I’m not so sure what to say in a 6 month post. I love my sleeve. It’s given me a new outlook on life after 50.
I don’t feel so old.
My knees don’t hurt anymore;
I don’t feel like I have to eat a whole pound of anything to feel full.
I like to exercise on my treadmill now and I actually can do it every day and not have to take Advil.
I am getting close to goal now. I found I have to watch my calories and carbs a lot more closely than I did right after surgery. After surgery, I was mostly trying to heal and then trying to learn as much as I could about the process to take advantage of the grace period.
Most of my knowledge comes from the vets on this board. A daily visit to this board, (sometimes two or three) is way better than therapy.
I don’t feel deprived of anything. I can eat whatever I want now. Just not much of it. But that’s ok for me because when I get up from the table…I’m as full and satisfied now as I was with a pound of food before surgery.
I still have some weight to lose so
*** I DO NOT EAT IT IF IT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO CONTINUE TO MY GOAL!***
Or at least I try to keep myself from eating it…corn chips and martini’s are the enemy!
It’s a daily struggle sometimes but not nearly as difficult a struggle as it was before surgery.
So, for the Newbies out there here is my advice:
1. Heal! It takes a month or so but give yourself a break and let your body heal! Just follow the plan and don’t pu****
2. Stay on Plan! Just try every day to follow your plan of water, protein and exercise. At six months out you will have done yourself a service that will reward you for a lifetime!
3. Start to exercise daily. I started with just a 15 min walk at 2.5 mph on my treadmill EVERYDAY. It’s the habit that makes it happen, not what you do in the beginning.
Whatever you choose to do….do it EVERYDAY. (you can skip one day a week, but only one)
And to the Vets out there: Thank you for the answers about quantity of food, foamies, constipation, acid reflux, exercise, calcium and B12, daily vites and cheese chips. For the encouragement and the discouragement (when needed). I will see you all on the maintenance board very soon. Pics below, cuz I know b&A pics rock!
