Menstrual Cycle question
I have been on the pill for many years and ALWAYS been regular. Since the first month after my surgery I've had two periods a month (still taking the pill) which was 7 months ago.
Now, I've done the research and all the talk about fat releasing hormones and all that, I get it. I also get that your fertility can increase because obese women often aren't ovulating (PCOS) but I'm the opposite. All this talk of increased hormone levels makes some sense but say that is what's going on with me, does it make sense for me to be taking the pill (more estrogen) and now this 5 day estrogen supplement?? Seems like if my fat is releasing estrogen, I don't need MORE in my system.
My surgeon says at 7 months out, it's most likely NOT surgery related. My Gyn says it's probably because of the rapid weight loss. She tested my thyroid to be sure and it was fine. I was told I have fibroids but they are most likely not in the location to cause the bleeding.
Wouldn't it make sense to test my hormone levels?? I would have asked this had I not been so shocked at the fibroid diagnosis.
What I want to know and what no one can can seem to answer is WHY am I having two periods a month while on the pill.
Is anyone else having two periods even while on the pill? DO you have any answers?
I'd love the links to some research if you have it!
Thanks so much y'all. I'm just at my wit's end.

I was sleeved Dec 21st. January 8th I started the pill again because I got my period. Got another period January 22nd. Spotting started when I hit the sugar pills around January 29th. So I guess I had 3 in a month, but the last one stopped as soon as the sugar pills ended. Now, I'm on the pill more for hormone issues I had pre-op (not diagnosed as PCOS but with many of the symptoms, they had to rule out a ton of adrenal stuff). Would your insurance cover an endocrinologist appointment to make sure it's not some other hormone besides thyroid? (My endo actually recommended the pill before the gyno because of the hormone issues I was having). I don't know how many medical things work, but 2 periods a month seems like torture. If your hormones are out of whack, maybe an endo can suggest something - like you said, maybe your estrogen levels are too high, which also isn't good (my pill is because my testosterone was too high - I mean, I was a tomboy but that's just ridiculous! ;) ). Good luck to you!
I'm glad to see that I am not alone with weird menstrual things. Last cycle my period was over a week over due, lasted more than 7 days of heavy flow, and I had ZERO PMS symptoms, I'm not even sure I ovulated last cycle. Now I'm 15 days out and have had spotting and some serious PMS symptoms. It's like my body does not know if it is coming or going. Added to all this is that I'm creeping up on 40 and perimenopause could be playing a role.
Good luck! -I had never considered an endo either. The OB referred me after some hormone levels came back weird in some bloodwork. The endo recommended birth control for the hormones, and the OB prescribed. The endo was the one who also mentioned WLS after he told me the hormone issues I was having were not the reason I had gained 12lbs in 6 weeks despite diet and exercise improvements. So, I owe him a lot!
