Surgery in 2 weeks!!!!!!!

I am scheduled for VSG surgery in 2 weeks and I am really starting to get nervous!  I am a self pay and will be flying to Dallas, Texas to have surgery with Dr. Dirk Rodriguez, since the prices are a lot cheaper in Texas.  Has anyone heard of this Dr. or used him?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

This all still seems like a dream- I have wanted this surgery for a very long time but my insurance unfortunately doesn't cover it.  I just got engaged in October of last year and my wonderful fiance knows how much this surgery means to me so we are giving up our dream wedding to pay for my VSG surgery.  Hope it's worth it!

If there are any tips anyone would like to share that would be great :) I'm so glad to have found this website, as it has been very informative and needless to say- ALL I can think about these days is my surgery!

Good luck to you.  I just got my sleeve on Wednesday.  I was also nervous the closer it got.  Must say it went very well.  I have actually taken very little pain medication.  I had my first pureed food today.  I use a baby spoon and it works just fine.  Just do everything they tell you.  I need to be more careful to sip when I drink.  I tend to gulp.  I wish you all the best.  I did have a momentary thought the morning of my surgery "what in the world are you doing?'  It was a fleeting moment and I have been just fine since.  Sending good thoughts your way!

I am glad you have found this website as well!  I am from GA and I will be self pay too.  (I have Kaiser and they won't pay).  I was about to give up because the surgery is so expensive here.  I googled Dr. Rodriguez and now I have hope again.  Thank You!

I just wanted to say Thank You and congratulations on your upcoming surgery and wedding.

Hi Indy,
I am Barbara from California and I have Kaiser Insurance also.  They are paying for
this procedure for everyone I know of in California.  I am really surprised they do
not want to pay for your surgery.  It is strange how things differ in other parts of
the country.  Good luck to you.

Hi Barbara,

Thanks.  My husband's company has a WLS exclusion.  Back in 2007 when I initially attempted the WLS journey, we were told about it and given a copy of the exclusion.   I've tried to lose the weight since then and have been successful at that but of course I could never keep it off.  I've been up and down and I am tired and ready to self pay.  I turned 40 last year and frankly, I deserve to be where I want to be, kwim.  So self pay is the next step.  I am 220 right now with a bmi of 36.

Tomorrow, my husband will request an updated copy of the booklet and if the exclusion is gone, I will be over the moon.  But if not, I will be contacting Dr. Rodriguez's office.  I am so happy that she posted his info.  The cost is half of the price that I've been quoted here in Atlanta.

I am ready to do this!
