Making Healthy Progress
I'm just shy of my 3 month surgiversary and was at the doc yesterday for check up and labs. I am now totally off all of my high blood pressure meds. In addition to that my cholesterol dropped 94 points from a high 266 to a normal 172! No more high cholesterol!! Labs did not report any health issues to be addressed, and the doc thought I was doing great, even though I thought my weight loss had been slow. He said that 5 to 10 pounds a month from here on out would be a good result. I've dropped 36 pounds since surgery and 56 since the day I walked into his office in mid-October. Compared to others on here, that is fairly slow in the loss department, but I'm happy with it, and hopefully it will continue!
Just wanted to share my good health news! My blood pressure has been high for 12 years and cholesterol for nearly 30 years, so these are huge healthy accomplishments for 3 months!!

Slow and steady works just fine too!
I hope I have the same progress as you.
And I'm quite jealous that you live on Camano Island. I would love to retire there, or Whidbey!
Keep up the great work!

Actually, twelvegates, I live in Alaska, but my husband and I are here on Camano taking care of my 90 year old mother for awhile. She's got a cabin on the beach on the east side of the island, with the water about 30' from the front door. Looking forward to some good swimming in another month or two. Figured as long as we were here in the 'real' world for awhile, I'd address some of these health issues and try to head into my sunset years in good health. Working well so far! Thanks for the encouragement!
Otter, I think you are doing great, sure beats the heck out of gaining weight, huh?!
I was wondering if you exercise and if so how much? You look like we are the same age and I know the the older we are the harder it is to lose, but still you are doing GREAT!
I just started an exercise program and I won't be sleeved until the end of April.
Anyway, you live in ALASKA???? I'm so jealous!! I just want to visit and can't get my hubby to commit to a trip!

Hi, Jackmac. Right now I'm walking about 2 miles a day whi*****ludes a LONG, very STEEP hill. Doing that about 5 days a week and walk on the flat the other two. If the weather is really bad I substitute 20 min to 1/2 hour on a stationary bike (boring so I don't go very long but it's better than nothing!). Yes, being post-menopausal makes the weight go MUCH slower, but it IS going slowly. I'm probably going to add some upper body weight training stuff with hand weights or kettleballs but haven't gotten there quite yet.
We're retired so now the normal pattern is living 6 months in Alaska and 6 months in an RV traveling. That was the schedule until my mom needed someone with her 24/7. We'll be here for awhile. My husband will go back to Alaska and take care of the place, plant the garden, do a little fishing and crabbing, etc., and come back in the fall. I'll be here enjoying a Camano summer (great swimming!).
Good luck with your sleeve....I'm sure you'll love it! The first few weeks can be a bit rough, but hang in there -- it's not long until you really start feeling good again! Thanks for the encouraging comments!
