Are we suppose to weigh and measure our food BEFORE it's cooked or AFTER it's cooked?

I am an after cooking kind of gal, because a 5 ounce hamburger patty grilled shrinks down to a little over 3 ounces, so 3 ounces of raw grilled would be.

Well, the size of a quarter.  :}

i do after.. don't see the sense in weighing it before.. as it looses all its liquids during cooking..

Maybe someone else can share some light as to why it would need to be measured before cooking..

I always weigh mine after cooking too but someone in my office questioned me about it last week and I was like "hmmm".  Then it got me to thinking about Myfitness Pal and wondering if the ounces, etc. that are referenced there are pre or post cooking.

I would say after. You aren't consuming it before it is cooked, so I would be more interested in the weight of what I was about to consume..cooked.
