Wish me luck! A week in Vegas...

So, I'm heading on my first long business trip away from home since surgery, this Sunday->Friday.  I'm kind of nervious!

I'm going to pack up my portable snacks of jerky, soynuts and protein powder, so that I don't go too long without food (I get edgy, hungry, low blood sugared, after 3-4 hours without eating).  I'm going to pack up my sneakers and workout clothes (which I historically have packed and not used on these kinds of trips).  I'm worried that I'll use this trip, with the limitless free food and alcohol, as an excuse to eat off plan and not track.  I worry that I won't wake up early to fit in a workout.

I'm trying to prepare myself in advance, by planning at least my breakfasts before I leave (I looked up the room service menu... I'm going to just order that each morning).  I am not a "shake as a meal" person, because they leave me hungry within an hour, so I need a breakfast that consists of something solid, like an egg or something.  Lunch will be onsite, and I bet they will always have something proteiny with the meal, so I'm good there...  I guess the only challenge will be dinner and drinks...

After my trip, I'll post an update here, to better hold myself accountable for my behavior...

Thanks for listening :)

Here's wishing you a very successful and fun trip!  I LOVE VEGAS!  I'm going again in April with my hubby.  Can't wait!

I think you've got a good plan.  I tend to pack workout clothes and not use them, too, but on my last two trips, I did!  I got up early and worked out almost every day.  It felt really good.

Where do you get your soynuts?  I need another high protein, low carb snack and I'm running into the same old cheese, hard boiled eggs and jerky.

Have a great time!

The easiest and healthiest place to get them is Super Target... The archer farms brand... Around here, they sell them in the produce section.  I say healthiest, because their version is the lowest in calories that I've seen, ounce per ounce.  They must use a different process to roast them or something.

If you want flavored nuts, I really like this place: http://soynuts.com/.  I haven't bought them online from these people yet, however I DID buy them at an outdoor festival, and loved them.

Some grocery stores sell various flavors of them... But they are often in an unexpected section of the store, so you might need to ask about their location.

You can do this!  I just got back from a mini-vacation with my Mom and lost another 1/2 pound while gone.  Woo Hoo!  Wasn't even trying!  Sounds like you have it covered.  I was like you and packed what I needed and used the tools that got me here.  Sounds like you are too.  You're gonna do fine...Have fun!!!

You must permanently change your lifestyle if you want your weight loss to be permanent. You can do it!

:)  LOL... My surgery date only appears in my signature because I can't figure out how to add my surgery date to my profile without also adding my doctor's name....

Hey, I just went to Vegas for four days and I pretty much ate off plan the whole time, I only gained 1/2 a pound--then I lost it pretty easily just going back on plan so, don't stress too much. Have some fun!!

You absolutely can do this. Planning is the key and it sounds like you are doing this. I love Vegas because you can walk all over. Instead of going to the gym walk the strip and people watch. You can go to the gym anytime. I think if you stay away from the alcohol you will be fine. Have fun. Sharon

I just returned last night from a week in San Jose del Cabo, sister city to Cabo. I went alone ( on purpose). I did the same things you did in terms of bringing things along. But by mid week I really wanted to try some of the local cuisine. So I did. Of corse my portions were small and I would have enough leftover for the next 2 meals.I also had my first alcohol in about 6 months! Margarita 1 night, glass of wine on 2 other nights. Then I had an ice cream at the local DQ. I was really afraid to face the scale this morning, but determined that I would get right back on track. And guess what? I actually lost 2.8 pounds!!! The one thing I did every day was to continue my food and water tracking. Even though I was totally guessing on some of the food, I had a count for calories, protein, and fluids. So I wouldn't worry- enjoy your trip and if you get off track a little, just know that you will be right back where you need to be when you return.
