Hi All,  I was wondering...is it necessary to take Bariatric Advantage vitamins?  The paperwork I got from my Dr. really pushed them.  It said something like the 10$ you save on vitamins isn't worth the hair loss ect after surgery.  So that made me think hummmm...if I don't buy the right vitamins that means I will lose hair.  I'm confused... I thought hair loss was just something that happened and wasn't really controllable???

I take Bariatric Advantage vitamins: multi's, calcium + vit D, & B12 & I still lost a lot of hair. I think it's inevitable with the surgery & rapid weight loss but it's not so bad. I'd still do it all again in a heartbeat.

I don't know of anything magical in the Bariatric Advantage vitamins that will prevent you from losing hair.  In my research, I found that hair loss is going to happen to 90% of people who have surgery.  If it's going to happen, then it's going to happen.

I use BA vitamins for calcium/D because they make yummy soft chews for this.  Otherwise, I use a One-A-Day multivitamin (it's easy to find a variety of over the counter multis).

I think the hair loss is just something that can't be avoid,Vitamins are just something that you need post op to make sure that your levels stay up.....I having surgery on Tuesday and when i met with my nutritionist and she also took me about bariactic vitamins.I just ordered some on line.My reason for other them was because I've been trying different vitamins and those are the ones that i like the best.I think that everything comes to what you like and what would be best for you.

No, there's nothing special about BA.  Use their list of ingredients though to make sure whatever vitamin you take contains everything you need.

In my packet of information, they say that some of the BA Vitamins are better to take because they are specially formulated for wls patients. i.e. They are easier on your pouch. Of the 6 that are requested we take after surgery, I am only ordering half from them, and half from puritain. The price difference can seem a little extreme! Thank goodness my surgeon's office has all vitamins and protein supplements 20% off on Mondays this month :)

You should expect to undergo hair loss regardless of which vitamins you take.
